MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN BERLIN
The green core is the Tiergarten, with its shaded paths around the Siegessäule. The Tempelhofer Feld is an experience of its own — the old airfield with dead-straight, endless runways, perfect for intervals. In the east, many runners head to Volkspark Friedrichshain or the Spree riverside in Treptower Park; if you're after forest and trails, go out to the Grunewald with its climb to the Teufelsberg, to the Schlachtensee and Krumme Lanke, or all the way to the Müggelsee with its rolling paths.
Groups meet in nearly every neighborhood — in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg, Neukölln, Mitte, or Charlottenburg. Every group lists the day, time, meeting point, and pace in advance. Many runs are free and explicitly meant for beginners, with zero pressure. Just how much Berlin runs shows in the BMW Berlin Marathon, the largest marathon in the world: almost 50,000 runners crossed the finish line in 2025.
Pick a group in your neighborhood and be at the start line for the next event. The best thing about running in Berlin isn't the world records on marathon Sunday — it's the regular run with people you'd never have met otherwise, and the after-work beer that follows. Find your people and run with them.
