MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN DÜSSELDORF
Düsseldorf's running turf is flat and green. The classic route is the Rheinuferpromenade, extended on the left bank by the wide Rhine meadows of Oberkassel, with views across to the Altstadt (old town). In the city center, runners loop through the Hofgarten, Südpark, and Volksgarten; for shaded long runs, there's the Grafenberger Wald, and for longer race-prep runs, Unterbacher See.
Runs happen in almost every district — Flingern, Bilk, Oberkassel, Pempelfort, Derendorf, and Unterbilk among them. Every meetup lists the day, time, meeting point, and pace up front, so there are no surprises. Many meetups are free and explicitly welcome beginners, at an easy pace with walk breaks. Just how much this city runs shows in the Düsseldorf Marathon each spring — expected to draw more than 23,000 runners in 2026.
Pick a group in your district and join the next event. The best part of an after-work run along the Rhine isn't your finishing time — it's the people next to you, and whatever happens together afterward. Run with us — you belong from the first lap.
