MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN KIEL
The essential route is the Kiellinie, a roughly six-kilometer promenade right along the Förde. Shaded and hilly terrain waits right next door in the Düsternbrooker Gehölz and the old Forstbaumschule; it's quieter in the Projensdorfer Gehölz along the Kiel Canal, with loops from one to twelve kilometers. Right in the city center, runners do their laps in Schrevenpark, and anyone craving pure sea air can take the flat beach path along Falckenstein Beach.
Groups meet in nearly every neighborhood — in Brunswik, Düsternbrook, the Wik, Gaarden, or around the Schreventeich. Every listing shows when and where a run starts and what pace to expect. Many meetups are free and explicitly welcome beginners. Just how much Kiel loves to run shows in the Kiel.Lauf, whose 37th edition in 2025 drew more than 11,000 participants across all its races.
Pick a meetup along the Förde, grab a spot at the next event, and show up. The best part of running in Kiel isn't the distance — it's the loop along the Kiellinie with people who love the wind as much as you do, and the chat afterward. Lace up and run with us.
