MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN BREMEN
The green heart of the city is the Bürgerpark and the adjoining Stadtwald, the classic jogging route with paths, ponds, and little woods. Down by the water, runners take the Osterdeich along the Weser or the roughly 14-kilometer loop around the Werdersee. Short and central is the ring path along the Wallanlagen around the old town; on Saturdays, people meet for parkrun at Stadtwaldsee. If you want wide-open space, the quiet polder landscape of the Blockland offers running completely free of traffic.
Groups meet in nearly every district — in the Viertel around Ostertor, in Neustadt, Schwachhausen, Findorff, or Walle. Before every run you can see when and where it starts and how fast the group goes. Many sessions are free and explicitly aimed at beginners. Just how much Bremen loves to run shows in the swb-Marathon, which marked its 20th edition in 2025 with a record 11,365 participants across all distances.
Pick your meetup in the Viertel and join the next event. The best part of running in Bremen is the loop around the Werdersee with people who are happy to stick around in the Viertel afterward. Come join in and run along.
