Frequently asked questions

Everything about We Up in one place — running along, hosting your own events, partnerships. We Up is your growing sports community; it starts with running, at home in the Rhineland.

What is We Up?
We Up is the platform for sports events & communities in Germany – the place where you find events in your city and simply join in. It starts with running: no pressure, everyone is welcome.
What is a run club (Lauftreff)?
A run club (in German: Lauftreff) is a group that meets regularly to run together — usually weekly, often free and open to new people. On We Up you find run clubs from all across Germany in one place and simply run along.
What is the difference between a Lauftreff, a running club (Laufverein) and a run club?
In everyday use the terms are often interchangeable. Strictly speaking, a Lauftreff is a loosely organised group without membership, a Laufverein is a registered club with fees and a club structure, and “run club” is the international name for both. On We Up you find all three.
Is We Up only for running?
No. We Up is a growing platform for sports events and communities — it starts with running, more sports will follow.
In which cities can I use We Up?
You find run clubs with us all across Germany; under „All cities“ you see which cities are already in. Our community is at home in the Rhineland: running events are listed around Cologne and Düsseldorf for now.
Is We Up free?
For participants We Up is completely free, in every city. You find events, sign up and join in, without any fees.
Do I need an app?
No. We Up runs right in your browser, so you can sign up straight away without installing anything. If you like, you can also add We Up as an icon to your home screen.
How fast do I need to be?
There is no minimum pace. Most run clubs run in pace groups or at an easy pace – you will always find people to run with, however fit you are. It is about joining in, not personal bests.
Is We Up suitable for beginners?
Yes. Many people who run along are just starting out. Pick an event described as beginner-friendly and simply run along — nobody gets left behind.
What if I don’t know anyone?
That is exactly what We Up is for. Most people come alone — and leave with new people. The group will find you at the meeting point, and after the run there is often time for a coffee.
What do I need to run along?
Running shoes and the will to start. Sign up for free, pick an event and come to the meeting point — the group does the rest.
How do I sign up for an event?
On the event page, tap „Join“ and confirm your sign-up — done. You get a reminder before the run and see all meeting-point details right in your account.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time. Your account shows every event you signed up for, and you can cancel with one click — the host is notified automatically.
What if I can’t keep up?
No problem. Many groups wait at crossings, run in pace groups or take walk breaks. And if it gets too fast, you simply drop out – that is completely fine.
What does a run club cost?
The vast majority of run clubs are free: you come along and run, with no membership or fee. Registered running clubs (Laufvereine) usually charge an annual fee, but often let you try a few sessions first.
When do running groups meet?
Mostly on weekday evenings and weekend mornings, many with a fixed weekly slot. On your city’s page (under „All cities“) you see the day and time for every group.
How do I start my own run club?
In a few minutes: apply for host access under „For hosts“, we unlock your account, you set up your community profile and create your first event. No registered club or prior knowledge needed.
Do I need a registered club to host?
No. Registered club, loose crew or individual — anyone can host. All that matters is that you regularly bring people together to run.
Is hosting free?
Yes, hosting is completely free. Creating events, managing participants, check-in and reminders — all included. Optional paid features will come later, and you never have to use them.
Can I keep using Instagram/WhatsApp alongside We Up?
Of course. We Up does not replace your channels — it brings events, sign-ups and check-in together in one place and brings you new runners. Your community on Instagram or WhatsApp stays as it is.
How do I manage participants?
Every event has a participant list with sign-ups and cancellations in real time. On event day you check people in right from your phone — no paper list needed.
How do I reach more runners?
Your event automatically appears under „Discover“ and on your city’s running page — visible to everyone looking for run clubs there. The more regularly you host, the more regulars and followers you build.
How can brands sponsor events on We Up?
Brands sponsor events and communities that fit them. During the pilot phase we support every partnership personally and make you visible online and on site – tailored to your brand.
What does sponsoring on We Up cost?
During the pilot phase we support partnerships personally and agree on the terms together. As an early partner you get preferential terms — with no setup fee.
How do I become a partner?
The easiest way is the contact form on „For brands“ (section „Become a partner“) or an email to hello@we-up.club. We get back to you personally and work out together which event fits your brand.
