MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN DRESDEN
The classic route is the flat path along the Elbwiesen and the Elberadweg, which runs right through the heart of the city. Central and well-lit, the roughly six-kilometer outer loop through the Großer Garten is a popular pick. If you want forest, head into the vast Dresdner Heide in the north along the Prießnitz or through Albertpark; for something green and close to the center, there's the Alaunpark in Neustadt and the Blüherpark. The Elbe stretch from the old town to the Blaues Wunder bridge is another favorite.
Groups meet in nearly every district — in Neustadt, Johannstadt, Striesen, Blasewitz, Pieschen, or Loschwitz. Before every run you'll find the start time, meeting point, and pace listed. Many sessions are free and explicitly welcome beginners too. Just how much Dresden loves to run shows in the REWE Team Challenge, which marked its 16th edition in 2025 with a record 30,000 runners from over 4,000 companies.
Find a meetup along the Elbe, grab your spot at the next event, and join in. The best part of the Elbe run isn't the time on the clock — it's the people running alongside you. Come along and run with them.
