MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN KARLSRUHE
The central loop is the roughly five-kilometer path around the Schlossgarten, from where the fan-shaped paths lead into the sprawling Hardtwald. For elevation, there's "Mount Klotz" in the Günther-Klotz-Anlage along the Alb river, or the Turmberg above Durlach with its more than 500 steps. For flat, fast running, head to the Albuferweg or the soft loop at the Alter Flugplatz; for long and level, run out into the Rheinaue as far as Lake Knielingen.
Groups meet in almost every neighborhood — in the Südstadt, Weststadt, and Oststadt, in Mühlburg, Durlach, or Knielingen. Every meetup tells you in advance the day, time, meeting point, and pace. Most groups are free and explicitly welcome running beginners too. Just how much Karlsruhe runs shows in the Baden-Marathon, which sold out its 41st edition in 2025 with over 10,000 registrations.
Find a group in your neighborhood, sign up for the next event, and get going. The best part of running in Karlsruhe isn't the marathon medal — it's the regular loop through the Hardtwald with people who pull you along week after week. Find your group and join in.
