Running Events in Düsseldorf 2026: The Calendar for Runners Who Don't Want to Start Alone

New: Running events in Düsseldorf 2027 → – the current overview with all dates for the coming year.

Search „Laufevents Düsseldorf 2026" today and you mostly get tables: date, distance, entry fee. What those lists almost never mention is the other half of getting ready – who's training alongside you, and who's actually going to be at the start line. That's the interesting part about Düsseldorf: it has some of the most active running groups in the Rhineland, and for nearly every event below, a local group is already building toward it. Here's what's still on the calendar from mid-July 2026 onward – and a quick note on why the date alone isn't the whole story.

Late summer 2026: three city races in three weeks

Autumn in Düsseldorf opens with a tight run of downtown and riverside races. On September 6, the New Balance Kö Meile takes over the Königsallee with mile and 5K street races, plus an inclusion mile and elite fields (Source diekoemeile.de 2026). A week later, on September 12, the USee Run circles the Unterbacher See with 5.8K and 10K courses through the Ellerforst woods (Source swimrun-challenge.com 2026). And on September 19, the Night Run returns for its second edition: 5K or 10K through an illuminated Rheinpark, with an evening start, a DJ and a finisher medal (Source d-running.de 2026).

Table: every confirmed event through year-end

Event Date Distance(s) Location
New Balance Kö Meile September 6, 2026 Mile (1.6 km), 5K Königsallee
USee Run September 12, 2026 5.8K, 10K Unterbacher See
Night Run September 19, 2026 5K, 10K Rheinpark
Rhein City Run (half marathon) October 25, 2026 21.1K Düsseldorf – Duisburg
Martinslauf at Unterbacher See November 8, 2026 6K Unterbacher See

Autumn: the half marathon and the club classic

If your summer training stayed short and fast, October is where the distance picks up. The Rhein City Run runs as a full half marathon from Düsseldorf through Kaiserswerth and Wittlaer down to Duisburg-Huckingen, with a staggered start at Robert-Lehr-Ufer (Source rhein-city-run.de 2026). On November 8, the Martinslauf at Unterbacher See closes out the season – its 48th running, organized by the athletics division of SFD '75, over the familiar 6K loop around the lake (Source sfd.de 2026). This one in particular says a lot about how tightly races and club life are woven together here: the organizer is a running club itself, not an outside event agency.

Already planning ahead: the Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon 2027

The season's biggest fixture already has a date: the Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon 2027 is set for April 18, with marathon, half marathon and relay races through the city, and registration is already open (Source Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon 2027). If you're eyeing a first marathon or half, that's good news rather than premature planning – a training block through autumn and winter is a lot easier to stick with as part of a group than solo, especially once the long runs land in December and January.

What's already happened in Düsseldorf this spring

A few dates from earlier this year are worth logging for next season rather than this one. The Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon 2026 took place on April 26 (Source Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon 2026), the 44th Benrather Volkslauf – which includes a half marathon distance – ran on April 4, organized by Lauftreff Düsseldorf-Süd (Source Lauftreff Düsseldorf-Süd 2026), the Düsseldorf Brückenlauf crossed the Rhine bridges on May 17 (Source brueckenlauf-duesseldorf.de 2026), and the 18th Benrather Schlosslauf – run by the same club – followed on June 7 (Source Lauftreff Düsseldorf-Süd 2026). If you missed one, all four are annual fixtures and will be back in 2027.

Why a date on a calendar isn't quite enough

A date and a distance don't tell you whether you'll know anyone at the start. That's exactly where Düsseldorf's running groups come in: many build their weekly sessions around a specific target like the Rhein City Run or the Night Run, travel to the start together, and wait for each other at the finish. If you're still looking for training partners for any of the races above, or just want to know who from your neighborhood is lining up too, it's worth a look at the active groups nearby.

Frequently asked questions

Which event suits me as a first race?
Take the shortest distance that appeals to you, at an event without finish-time pressure. A five-kilometre city race gives you the full race experience – start pen, spectators, finish line – without demanding half a year of build-up.
How do I know when entries open, or whether a race is sold out?
Only from the official event page or its linked registration portal – entry windows and capacities change every year, and third-party listings lag behind. For the bigger Düsseldorf events it's worth noting when entries open rather than checking last minute.
What if I can't manage the distance by race day?
Then you enter the shorter one – that's planning, not defeat. And if you've already entered: walking breaks are allowed and cost you nothing but time. Far more people than you'd think walk part of a mass-participation race.
