MORE ABOUT RUNNING IN FREIBURG
The classic for everyone is the Dreisamuferweg, a flat, car-free path that runs straight through the city. If you want to head out and up, the mountains are right on your doorstep: the Schlossberg with its trails above the city center, the Rosskopf with its lookout tower, and — for serious elevation — the Schauinsland, Freiburg's local mountain in the Black Forest. For flat, shady running, head to the Mooswald in the west; for a compact after-work loop, circle the illuminated Flückiger See in Seepark.
Groups meet in almost every neighborhood — in the Altstadt, Herdern, Zähringen, Littenweiler, or Haslach. Every group shows the day, time, meeting point, and pace in advance. Many meetups are free and explicitly welcome beginners, with no pressure on pace. Just how international Freiburg's running scene is shows in the Mein Freiburg Marathon, where around 13,600 runners from 91 nations lined up at the start in 2025.
Find your meetup in the neighborhood, lock in the next event, and just join the run. The best part of running in Freiburg isn't the marathon medal — it's the weekly loop along the Dreisam with people who stick around for a Radler afterward. Join in and run Freiburg together.
