On 31 December 2026, Munich runs into the new year for the 41st time – in the Olympiapark, with its own ranking for running groups and run clubs. Registration is not open yet; the 2025 edition sold out.

The MRRC Silvesterlauf München – Munich's New Year's Eve race – reaches its 41st edition on Thursday, 31 December 2026, in the Olympiapark as always (source: datasport.de, registration service 2026). For the 2025 anniversary edition, the München RoadRunners Club counted more than 4,300 registrations from 54 nations, a record (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, Silvesterlauf). For running groups, there is another reason to look at this event: a dedicated ranking in which Munich clubs, Lauftreffs (group runs) and run clubs race each other.
The Datasport registration portal already lists the 41st edition for 31 December 2026, but the page is still in test mode – as of 3 October 2026 you cannot sign up yet (source: datasport.de, registration service 2026). The club says registration opens "in autumn" and that it will announce the start on its website, on Instagram and in its newsletter (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, Silvesterlauf).
Why that matters: in 2025 registration opened on 1 October (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025), and the club page lists the last edition as "sold out" (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, Silvesterlauf). In 2024 the roughly 3,000 places were gone early too; for the anniversary, MRRC raised the limit to 4,000 (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, press release November 2025). There were no on-site entries in 2025 (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025). If you want to be in the Olympiapark on New Year's Eve morning, subscribe to the newsletter or keep an eye on the registration page.
Prices for 2026 have not been published. For orientation, the 2025 race rules (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025):
| Race | Start 2025 | Fee until 30 Oct 2025 | from 24 Nov 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kids' race 500 m | approx. 11:00 | €5 | €5 |
| Schools race 2 km | 11:10 | €8 | €10 |
| 5 km | 11:30 | €21 | €25 |
| 10 km | 12:30 | €26 | €29 |
Transferring a place cost €8 in 2025 and was possible until 23 December; entry fees were not refunded (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025).
This is what sets Munich's New Year's Eve race apart. In this special ranking, the three fastest people from one community, club or Lauftreff count in the 10 km race, scored by their combined net time (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025). According to the 2025 rules, teams may be mixed – three men, three women or any combination. There is no age-group team ranking. The top three teams receive a special prize and certificates (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025).
What that looks like in practice, 2025: the women's ranking went to LG Stadtwerke München (Philine Meister, Rosalie Hausdorf, Marisa Geisberger) in a combined 1:50:07, the men's to adidas Runners Munich (Michel Nouguier, Hendrik Lippold, Björn Kemmer) in 1:40:27 (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, press release 1 January 2026). A traditional athletics club and a brand-run club on the same podium – that is exactly what the ranking is for.
For your group, that means:
Whether the team ranking will be offered in exactly the same form in 2026 will only be clear once the new race rules are out. If you are still looking for a group to train with until New Year's Eve, running in Munich lists Lauftreffs and run clubs with weekly meet-ups.
On its results page, the club notes the conditions for many editions. Read them in a row and you see why you should plan more than one outfit for New Year's Eve in Munich:
Twenty degrees between two New Year's Eves – and according to the rules the event goes ahead in any weather (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025). One line in the small print matters for your shoes: because of environmental rules, the course is not salted (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025). If there is snow or ice, you run on whatever winter has left. Pack two options for 31 December, check the thermometer in the morning and decide then – and bring a layer for afterwards, because a few hours easily pass between bib pickup and the award ceremony.
The 2026 schedule is not out yet. As a template, this is how the day ran in 2025 (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, info at a glance and race rules 2025):
Timing uses a single-use transponder on the bib, so there is nothing to return. There were pacemakers in the 5 km and 10 km, and running buggies were allowed with consideration for others (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, info at a glance). Travel by U-Bahn to Olympiazentrum or by bike; parking fees at the Olympic grounds are not refunded (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, race rules 2025).
The 10 km course is officially measured and eligible for ranking lists (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, press release November 2025). In 2025, Caleb Trabitzsch won in 32:16 and Thea Heim in 35:34; over 5 km, Moritz Mühlpointner won in 15:28 and Caro Binkowski in 18:50 (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, press release 1 January 2026). The field goes far beyond the front, though: participants at the last edition were between two and 92 years old (source: mrrc-muenchen.de, press release 1 January 2026).
If you spent the autumn training for the Munich Marathon, this is an easy end to the season or a chance to test your October form over 10 km once more. All other races in the city are listed in the overview of running events in Munich.
And if you are spending New Year's Eve in another city: the Spiridon Mainova Silvesterlauf in Frankfurt also has a team ranking, and the Rhineland dates are in our overview of New Year's Eve races in the Rhineland.
