Running Events in Nuremberg 2027: Metropolmarathon, B2Run and SportScheck RUN

Nuremberg runs around the old town and at its lakes. In 2026 the Metropolmarathon finished at the Hauptmarkt, and the Nürnberger Stadtlauf (city run), which SportScheck organizes today, leads through the old town to the Wöhrder See. In summer the triathlon swim takes place in the Wöhrder See, and the Silvesterlauf starts on the Pegnitz in Wöhrd. In the south-east, the Dutzendteich is the second focal point: that's where the B2Run runs, with the finish in the Max-Morlock-Stadion, and from November to February the Winterlaufserie. On top of that come two unusual venues: the Norisring and the Südwestpark, a business park in the south-west of Nuremberg.

This overview shows which events are coming up and who they suit. Where the organizer has already confirmed the 2027 date, it's listed; otherwise we give the date of the last edition for orientation. As of 30 September 2026.

Still in 2026: Norisring and the old town

October brings a brand-new format and a classic that has changed its date.

On 3 October 2026 the PACE RACE Nürnberg celebrates its premiere at the Norisring. The format is an elimination race: you run 1 km laps with a 60-second break after each one, and every lap has to be faster than the one before. If you miss the time limit, you're out – after roughly 28 km at most, it's over. Because the first edition is still to come, there are no participant numbers yet. The organizer has already announced the second edition for 2 October 2027, and tickets are available via atleta.cc (pace-race.com). PACE RACE is a series with further stops, including in NRW, Berlin and Hamburg. You won't run a personal best here, but you'll find out how long you can keep raising the pace.

On 25 October 2026 the SportScheck RUN Nürnberg follows, Nuremberg's city run, which has existed since 1995. It used to take place traditionally on 3 October. The loop course leads through the old town to the Wöhrder See; the distances are a half marathon (two laps), 10 km and 6 km, plus children's races. Start and finish are usually at the Hauptmarkt; in 2026 this changes because of construction work at the opera house (sportscheck.com). The half marathon over two laps through the city centre is a good first half marathon, the 6 km a friendly way in. The organizer hasn't published a reliable participant number, and the 2027 date isn't known yet.

Winter at the Dutzendteich, New Year's Eve on the Pegnitz

Between November and February, two events carry Nuremberg's running year: a series with growing distances and a year-end finale with a long tradition.

The Nürnberger Winterlaufserie (winter running series) by runningConcepts consists of three dates at the Dutzendteich, with the start at the Gutmann am Dutzendteich, Bayernstraße 150. The 2026/27 series begins on 15 November 2026 with 5 or 10 km, followed by 10 or 15 km on 17 January 2027 and, to close, 10 or 20 km on 7 February 2027. If you run all three, you make the overall ranking (runningconcepts.de). With its rising distances, the series is a training plan with a race bib – the 20 km in February are a good test if you're training for a half marathon or the marathon in June.

In between, on 31 December 2026, comes the 23rd edition of the Silvesterlauf Nürnberg (New Year's Eve run). Team Klinikum Nürnberg e.V. has organized it since 2003; the start is at the Sebastianspital by the Café Tante Noris, Veilhofstraße 38, in Wöhrd, and you run along the Pegnitz. The main race is 10 km, the Hobbylauf (recreational run) 5 km, plus a school run over 1.6 km and a Bambinilauf over 400 m. Registration opens on 1 October 2026 at MAXX-Timing, and the limit is 1,300 places each for the 5 km and the 10 km (team-klinikum-nuernberg.de).

June: Metropolmarathon between Fürth and Nuremberg

Nuremberg's marathon is one it shares with its neighbouring city. The Sparkassen Metropolmarathon has existed in Fürth since 2007, and since 2024 it has connected Fürth and Nuremberg as a point-to-point course. The direction changes from year to year: in 2024 it went from Fürth to Nuremberg, in 2025 from Nuremberg to Fürth, and on 14 June 2026 again from the Julius-Hirsch-Sportzentrum in Fürth to the Hauptmarkt in Nuremberg. The course led through Schniegling, St. Johannis, the old town, Wöhrd and Mögeldorf. The organizer hasn't published yet which direction it will go in 2027.

For 2027 the organizer names the weekend of 19/20 June; in 2026 the main races took place on the Sunday, so that would be 20 June 2027. Registration opens on 1 January 2027. The distances are a marathon, a half marathon and 10 km. According to the organizer, 11,500 people took part in 2026 – this figure covers the whole weekend including the children's races (metropolmarathon.de). The organizer is a working group of Laufteam Fürth 2010 and Team Klinikum Nürnberg, which also organizes the Silvesterlauf. If you're training for the marathon, you do the long runs in April and May.

After work and with your team: FunRun Südwest and B2Run

In early summer, people run on weekdays, often straight from the office.

Ten days before the marathon, on 10 June 2027, the FunRun Südwest invites you to the Südwestpark, a business park in the south-west of Nuremberg. The after-work run goes over 8.8 and 5 km, plus 6 km Nordic walking and a 1 km children's race. Part of the proceeds is donated (funrunsuedwest.de). The 5 km are an uncomplicated first race, even without a company team.

With 20,600 participants, the B2Run Nürnberg (corporate run) has the highest number documented in this overview. That many people from more than 660 companies took part in the 14th edition on 21 July 2026, a participation record (Nürnberger Nachrichten, nn.de). You run or walk a course of around 6.1 km around the Dutzendteich, and the finish is in the Max-Morlock-Stadion. Teams from companies and organizations in the region take part, and places are available in the B2Run shop (b2run.de). The organizer hasn't published the 2027 date yet.

Triathlon in the Wöhrder See

Since 2022, Nuremberg has had a triathlon right in the middle of the city. At the DATAGROUP Triathlon Nürnberg the swim takes place in the Wöhrder See, and the formats on offer are the Olympic distance (1.5 km swim, 45 km bike, 10.5 km run), a sprint (0.5/20/5 km) and a super sprint (0.3/10/3 km), plus relays and a Para-Cup. According to the organizer, the edition on 9 August 2026 was sold out (as of July 2026) and had record participation (nuernberg-triathlon.de). The 2027 date is still to come. With the super sprint and the relay, this is a good way into triathlon.

Nearby: Challenge Roth

Roth lies around 30 km south of Nuremberg, and that's where the DATEV Challenge Roth takes place, which the organizer describes as the world's biggest long-distance triathlon. It has existed since 1984. The next edition is on 4 July 2027: a 3.8 km swim in the Main-Donau-Kanal (Main-Danube Canal), 180 km on the bike with the climb at the Solarer Berg and a 42.2 km marathon, with the finish in the Triathlonstadion in Roth (challenge-roth.com). Both individual starters and relays are possible.

If you want to start in 2027, you have to be quick: online registration for 2027 already took place on 13 July 2026, and places were allocated in order of registration. One more chance is the Late Entry Draw, a lottery for race places that you can sign up for until 9 November 2026; the organizer guarantees at least 300 individual and 25 relay places for it, and the draw takes place on 11 November (challenge-roth.com).

Planning tips for your running year

Registering early pays off. The triathlon was sold out in 2026. At the Silvesterlauf, the 5 km and the 10 km are each limited to 1,300 places, and registration opens on 1 October 2026. For the Metropolmarathon, registration starts on 1 January 2027.

Many 2027 dates are still to come. So far, the Winterlaufserie, the FunRun Südwest on 10 June, the Metropolmarathon on the weekend of 19/20 June and the PACE RACE on 2 October are confirmed. For the B2Run, the SportScheck RUN and the triathlon, it's worth checking the organizers' websites over the winter.

Four places shape Nuremberg's running year. The SportScheck RUN and – depending on the direction – the Metropolmarathon run in the old town with the Hauptmarkt. The B2Run and the Winterlaufserie take place at the Dutzendteich. The triathlon and the Silvesterlauf are at the Wöhrder See and on the Pegnitz in Wöhrd. On top of that come the Norisring with the PACE RACE and the Südwestpark with the FunRun Südwest.

Don't train alone

Nuremberg's year has one big goal in June: the Metropolmarathon, for which you build your base in winter with the Winterlaufserie. A month later comes the B2Run, which you bring your colleagues along to. The long runs are easier in a group, and at the start it's nicer when you know someone. You'll find the right group among the running groups and run clubs in Nuremberg.
