Half marathons in Ottobeuren and Oberstdorf in spring, mountain runs up the Nebelhorn and the Hochgrat, the Königsschlösser Marathon in Füssen and the Panorama Marathon in Sonthofen in summer, triathlon at the Alpsee in August: all the key running events in the Allgäu for 2027 – plus what's still coming before New Year's Eve 2026.

In the Allgäu, running often means going uphill. The Hörnergruppe above Sonthofen, the Nebelhorn above Oberstdorf, the Hochgrat in the Nagelfluhkette and the Tegelberg above Neuschwanstein Castle are the goals of mountain runs, and in September teams of six run their relay around the Grünten. In between lie the lakes: a marathon passes the Forggensee and the Hopfensee, triathlon has been held at the Alpsee near Immenstadt since 1983, and summer and autumn bring races around the Grüntensee and the Rottachsee. In the towns, things get shorter and faster – through the old towns of Memmingen and Wangen, at the Residenz and in the Illerstadion in Kempten, and at the harbour of Lindau a marathon begins that only ends in Austria.
This overview shows which events are coming up and who they suit. Where the organizer has already confirmed the 2027 date, it's listed; otherwise we give the date of the last edition for orientation. As of 30 September 2026.

Autumn begins at Lake Constance, with a marathon that crosses two borders.
On 11 October 2026 the Sparkasse 3-Länder-Marathon (Three Countries Marathon) starts its 19th edition. It's a point-to-point marathon: the start is at the harbour of the island town of Lindau, from there the course runs through Austria and Switzerland and finally through the Seebühne (lake stage) to the finish in Bregenz. Alongside the 42.195 km there's a half marathon, a quarter marathon over 10.9 km, a marathon relay for teams of four, 10.9 km of Nordic walking and a 5 km Youth Run. Important for your planning: the start in Lindau is confirmed only for the marathon – where the half and quarter marathon begin is listed with the organizer. According to the press page, around 15,000 people took part across all races in 2025 (3-laender-marathon.at). The 2027 date is still open.
Until the end of the year, clubs carry the Allgäu running year.
It kicks off on 3 October 2026 with the Buxachtal-Lauf of TV Memmingen, for the 19th time. The course runs through the Memmingen city forest and the Buxachtal, over 6.6 km in the Wassermann Waldlauf or 2.7 km in the Vitallauf. Alongside the individual ranking there are company, team and school rankings (triathlon.tv-memmingen.de).
On 17 October 2026 comes the Lauf um den Rottachsee (run around the Rottachsee) in Petersthal near Oy-Mittelberg, the 35th edition. Once around the lake is 15 km. With it, TSV Petersthal closes the Laufsport-Saukel-Cup (tsvpetersthal.de).
The year ends on 31 December 2026 in Kempten. At the AÜW Georg Hieble Silvesterlauf, start and finish are in the Illerstadion, with 5 and 10 km on offer. According to the organizer, more than 2,000 runners take part (808project.de). The 5 km are a good setting for your first race bib.
In March the Allgäu road season begins, followed by Kempten and, in May, the valleys near Oberstdorf.
On 15 March 2026 the Halbmarathon Ottobeuren took place for the 14th time, around the monastery town of Ottobeuren. Alongside the 21.1 km, 10 and 6 km are on offer. With 802 finishers it was a record according to TSV Ottobeuren, and the club has announced a 2027 edition – but not the date yet (halbmarathon-ottobeuren.de). With 10 and 6 km in the same programme, it's a good setting for your first start over 21.1 km – or for the step towards it.
Also in March is the Sonthofer Frühlingslauf: the 18th edition is announced for 21 March 2027, over 10 km on the road. The organizer is the team behind the Allgäu Panorama Marathon (sonthofer-fruehlingslauf.de).
In Kempten, the Geiger LST Super Sunday opens the season. On 26 April 2026 it covered measured 5 and 10 km courses, plus a children's run and a school run, with the finish at the Residenz. For 2027 the organizer only says "spring 2027"; there's no exact date yet (808project.de). The 5 km are a good way into racing.
At the end of May it's into the mountains, without getting steep straight away. The Oberstdorfer Gebirgstäler-Halbmarathon (mountain valleys half marathon) on 23 May 2027 starts at the Nordic Zentrum Oberstdorf and heads into the Trettachtal as far as Spielmannsau; the way back runs via the Oytal and past the Moorweiher. The 21.1 km add up to 382 metres of climbing, and if you prefer it shorter, you run 12.4 km on the same paths (gebirgstaelerhalbmarathon.ar-events.run).
From May to September, the calendar keeps leading to summits.
It starts with the MOUNTAINMAN Nesselwang on 8 May 2027, with a Kids-Trail the day before. In the Allgäu Alps around Nesselwang, the courses range from 10 km via 21 and 33 km to the marathon with 2,750 metres of climbing and the 70 km ultra trail with 3,900 metres of climbing. Registration for 2027 is already open (mountainman.de).
On 4 July 2027 the Int. Nebelhorn-Berglauf (Nebelhorn mountain run) goes from the valley station of the Nebelhornbahn in Oberstdorf via the Seealpe and the Höfatsblick to the summit of the Nebelhorn: 9.7 km with 1,420 metres of climbing. The organizer promotes it as "Germany's toughest mountain run"; according to the organizer's website, 364 participants reached the finish in 2026 (nebelhornberglauf.de).
In the Ostallgäu, TSV Schwangau's Tegelberglauf leads up the Tegelberg above Neuschwanstein Castle, with a team ranking and a youth race. On 2 August 2026 it took place for the 24th time, and in 2025 it was the Bavarian mountain running championship. The 2027 date is still open (tegelberglauf.tsv-schwangau.de).
It closes with the Hochgratberglauf on 5 September 2027 in Steibis near Oberstaufen. The finish is the Hochgrat, the highest summit of the Allgäu Nagelfluhkette. TSV Oberstaufen is hosting it for the 49th time in 2027, and the Bavarian mountain running championships are announced alongside it; there's also a youth mountain run (tsv-oberstaufen.de).
Between the mountain runs, summer belongs to the shorter distances.
At the summer solstice, TV Oy runs the Sonnwendlauf um den Grüntensee (solstice run around the Grüntensee), starting in Haslach near Oy-Mittelberg. It's run in the evening, over 21.1 or 10.6 km. On 26 June 2026 it took place for the 29th time, and the 2027 date is still open (sonnwendlauf.de).
In the Württemberg part of the Allgäu, the Wangener Altstadtlauf of MTG Wangen follows on 3 July 2027, the 30th edition. The 5.2 km loop runs through the historic old town of Wangen, over cobblestones and across the market square. On top of that there's the "Wangener Stolperer": in 30 minutes you run as many laps as you like (mtg-wangen.de).
A week later, on 10 July 2026, the evening Sonthofer Citylauf took place in Sonthofen for the 22nd time. The event is changing organizer: from 2027, TSV Sonthofen will continue the city-centre run, but it hasn't published a date yet (sonthofer-citylauf.de).
The e-con Lauf at the e-con ArenaPark in Memmingen is young. On 11 July 2026 it took place for the third time over 5 or 10 km, individually or as a group, plus a Bambini run. The 2027 date is still open (econ-ag.com).
Much older is the Internationaler Allgäu-Volkslauf in Leutkirch im Allgäu. It's part of the Leutkirch Kinderfest (children's festival), start and finish are at the Wilhelmshöhe, and the course runs through the Allgäu alpine foothills. On 19 July 2026 it took place for the 54th time, over 10 and 5 km, both distances also as Nordic walking. There's no 2027 date yet (tsg-leutkirch.de).
In September it's back into town once more. The Memminger Altstadtlauf runs through Memmingen's old town, and alongside individual runners, companies are ranked too. On 20 September 2026 it took place for the 27th time, and the 2027 date is still open (mm-altstadtlauf.de).
Two marathons in the Allgäu are only two weeks apart – one by the lakes in the Ostallgäu, one over the Hörnergruppe in the Oberallgäu.
At the IWIS Königsschlösser Marathon (Royal Castles Marathon) on 24 July 2027, the Füssener Lauf-Samstag celebrates its 25th edition. The start is on Kemptener Straße in Füssen, and the marathon passes the Hopfensee, the Forggensee and the Schwansee and runs through Füssen's old town. The 42.195 km add up to only 82 metres of climbing. There's also a half marathon over 21 km, a quarter marathon over 10.5 km through the Schwanseepark and children's races. According to the organizer, more than 2,000 people take part across all races, and registration for 2027 is open (laufwochenende-fuessen.de).
On 8 August 2027 the Allgäu Panorama Marathon follows in Sonthofen, the 20th edition. It's a mountain and landscape marathon: the courses run over the Hörnergruppe and along the Iller. The options are an ultra of around 69.5 km, the marathon over 42.2 km, the Hörnerlauf of around 18 km and the half marathon, plus, on the Saturday before, a half marathon on the reversed course ("Reverse") and 5 km. According to the organizer, the 19th edition in August 2026 brought a record with 4,200 registered participants (allgaeu-panorama-marathon.de).
At the Allgäuer Benefizlauf (Allgäu charity run) in Kempten, time doesn't count. The start is on the Residenzplatz, and everyone can take part however suits them: running, walking, in a wheelchair, with a handbike or on a bike, over around 5, 12 or 52 km. The entry fees go to the Stiftung für Körperbehinderte Allgäu (a foundation for people with physical disabilities). On 15 August 2026 the Benefizlauf took place for the 19th time, and according to the organizer more than 1,700 people took part in 2025 (kb-allgaeu.de). The organizer hasn't published the 2027 date yet.
In summer, swimming and cycling join in.
In the Unterallgäu, TSV Ottobeuren's Unterallgäuer Triathlon gets under way. On offer are a beginner distance of 0.5 km swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running, the Olympic distance over 1.5, 40 and 10 km, and a relay ranking. On 27 June 2026 it took place for the 35th time, and the 2027 date is still open (triathlon-ottobeuren.de). The beginner distance and the relay are a good way into the sport.
The Allgäu Triathlon at the Alpsee in Bühl near Immenstadt has been held since 1983; according to the organizer, it's the oldest of its kind in Germany. The race day of the 45th edition is 22 August 2027. The options are the Classic distance over 1.9 km swimming, 92 km cycling and 20 km running, the Olymp distance over 1.5, 46 and 10 km, a sprint over 0.5, 29 and 5 km, and a Classic relay. The day before, races of the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga take place. Registration for 2027 opens on 7 October 2026 (808project.de).
To close the summer season, the Grüntenstafette (Grünten relay) runs in Agathazell near Burgberg im Allgäu. Teams of six share the loop around the Grünten: trail run, road bike, mountain run, alpine run, mountain bike and road run. According to the organizer, around 1,700 people take part. After 26 September 2026, the next edition is on 26 September 2027 (808project.de). You need five teammates – but in return nobody has to master all six disciplines alone.
There's no IRONMAN in the Allgäu. The nearest race is around 75 km as the crow flies from Lindau: the IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona on Lake Zurich, on 6 June 2027. The middle distance is 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running. According to ironman.com, registration for 2027 is sold out.
Some registrations are already open. For the MOUNTAINMAN Nesselwang and the Königsschlösser Marathon in Füssen, you can already register for 2027. For the Allgäu Triathlon, registration opens on 7 October 2026. The IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland is already sold out for 2027.
The Saukel-Cup links the year. The Laufsport-Saukel-Cup is a regional series: the Silvesterlauf in Kempten opens the cup for the new year, the Sonnwendlauf um den Grüntensee is part of it, and the Lauf um den Rottachsee closes it in October.
One team, many events. AR Events (Der Laufladen Sonthofen) organizes the Sonthofer Frühlingslauf, the Gebirgstäler-Halbmarathon, the Nebelhorn-Berglauf and the Allgäu Panorama Marathon. 808project GmbH is behind the LST Super Sunday and the Silvesterlauf and co-organizes the Allgäu Triathlon and the Grüntenstafette.
Not all mountains are equal. Between the 82 metres of climbing of the Königsschlösser Marathon and the 1,420 metres over 9.7 km on the Nebelhorn lie worlds. Check the profile before you register.
The Allgäu year has many goals that fit together well: the half marathon in spring, a mountain run in summer and one of the two marathons in Füssen or Sonthofen. The long runs and the climbs are easier in a group, and at the start it's nicer when you know someone. You'll find the right group among the running groups and run clubs in the Allgäu.
