Neujahrslauf at the Brandenburger Tor, half marathon in April, City Night on the Kudamm, marathon in September and doughnuts on New Year's Eve: all the key running events in Berlin for 2027 – plus what's still coming before the end of 2026.

Berlin doesn't have one running date that everything revolves around – it has a calendar that begins at noon on New Year's Day at the Brandenburger Tor and ends on New Year's Eve in the Grunewald forest. In between come a half marathon with more than 37,000 finishers, races across the runways of the old Tempelhof airport, an evening event on the Kurfürstendamm and, in September, the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON with more than 56,000 entries.
This overview sorts the events by what suits you and explains what matters when you register – at the big races, it's often a ballot that decides. Where the organizer has already confirmed the 2027 date, it's listed; otherwise we give the date of the last edition for orientation. As of 29 September 2026.

The marathon has only just finished, but autumn still has a few dates in store, spread from Schloss Charlottenburg via Tempelhof to the Müggelsee lake.
On 11 October the Berliner Morgenpost Great 10K starts at Schloss Charlottenburg, with a loop course through the Großer Tiergarten park. The organizer calls it "Germany's fastest city race"; alongside the 10 km there's a 2x5 km relay, 4.2 km and children's races, and more than 7,000 people entered in 2025 (berlin-laeuft.de). At the SportScheck RUN on 17 October you run across the illuminated airfield in Tempelhof as darkness falls: 5 km at 6 pm, 10 km at 7 pm, half marathon at 7:05 pm, entry from €40 (sportscheck.com).
On 18 October the Müggelsee-Halbmarathon runs once around the lake in its 20th edition, starting at the Müggelseeperle and passing through the Spreetunnel Friedrichshagen; alternatively there are 10 and 5 km. Online registration is closed because the participant limit has been reached, but you can still enter on site on 17 October from 12:30 pm to 4 pm (ww-sport.de).
The Grunewald rounds off the year. On 31 December the Berliner Silvesterlauf (New Year's Eve run) goes around the Teufelsberg and Drachenfliegerberg hills, with courses from 2 to just over 10 km and costumes explicitly welcome. Everyone gets a Pfannkuchen (a Berlin doughnut) at the finish – hence the nickname "Pfannkuchenlauf" (doughnut run); around 2,500 people took part in 2025 (berliner-silvesterlauf.de).
There's hardly a more relaxed start to the running year: the Berliner Neujahrslauf (New Year's run) starts on 1 January 2027 at 12 noon at the Brandenburger Tor and runs 4 km to the Berliner Dom cathedral and back – without timing, registration or an entry fee. It raises money for the Björn Schulz Stiftung foundation, and 4,378 people took part in 2026 (berliner-neujahrslauf.de).
In March the running scene heads south-east: Rund um den Müggelturm (around the Müggelturm tower) starts for the twelfth time on 21 March 2027 at the Seebad Wendenschloss and runs through the Köpenicker Forst forest, with a half marathon, 10 and 5 km (ww-sport.de). If you're planning your first half marathon in spring, this is a quiet alternative to the big race in the city centre.
Because on 4 April 2027 comes the GENERALI BERLINER HALBMARATHON, the city's largest half-marathon field: at the 45th edition in 2026, 37,355 people crossed the finish line behind the Brandenburger Tor. The weekend also includes inline skating, wheelchair and handbike races and the Garmin BERLIN MILE. Places are allocated by ballot, and according to the organizer the results are already out; places are still available through charity partners and tour operators (generali-berliner-halbmarathon.de).
On 18 April 2027 follows the S25 Berlin – running since 1981 and, as the former BIG 25, Germany's oldest city race. The start is in front of the Olympiastadion, the finish inside the stadium. Alongside 5 km, 10 km and a half marathon there are the 25 km that give the race its name, a 5x5 km team run and a children's race; 14,300 people started in 2026 (berlin-laeuft.de). You rarely find 25 km on the calendar, and it's a good stepping stone in your marathon preparation.
The Tempelhofer Feld is Berlin's most unusual place to run: a huge, flat open space with runways, where two new formats have launched recently.
The most striking is the PACE RACE Berlin, an elimination race over 1 km laps: each lap has a shorter time limit, with a 60-second break in between, and if you miss the limit, you're out. After the first edition on 13 June 2026, the second has been announced for 5 June 2027 (pace-race.com). Also new was the Saucony BLN 10K on 20 June 2026 – two 5 km laps starting and finishing in Hangar 6, with an after-race party; there's no 2027 date yet (berlin10k.com).
The highlight of the summer is in the west. At the adidas Runners City Night on 31 July 2027, the Kurfürstendamm becomes a race course in the evening: 5 km straight ahead with just one turning point, 10 km in laps, plus 10 km of inline skating and a double start combining both. The finish is a glowing arch at the Gedächtniskirche memorial church. More than 16,350 runners and skaters took part in 2026, a record (berlin-citynight.de).
From late August, Berlin's running year is geared towards one Sunday in September. For many, the events of these weeks are part of their training plan; for others, they're the goal itself.
Die Generalprobe (the dress rehearsal) in Steglitz takes place around four weeks before the marathon: on a flat 10.5 km loop starting and finishing on the Schloßstraße, you run one lap as a quarter marathon or two as a half marathon. 6,439 people took part on 23 August 2026, a record; the 2027 date is still to come (berliner-generalprobe.de). In the north, the BORSIG Halbmarathon follows on 5 September 2027 at the Rathaus Reinickendorf town hall, with 10 km, 5 km, a relay and children's races. In 2026 it hosted the Berlin-Brandenburg championships, with more than 2,200 entries (borsighalbmarathon.de) – more manageable for a first half marathon than the big city-centre races.
At the VOLVO Tierparklauf on 11 and 12 September 2027 you run through the Tierpark zoo in Friedrichsfelde, over 5 or 10 km, in a generations relay, walking or in the children's races. Your race bib gets you into the Tierpark for free; 8,605 runners started in 2026 (berlin-laeuft.de).
On the Saturday of marathon weekend, the GENERALI 5K runs from Potsdamer Platz along the last kilometres of the marathon course to the Straße des 17. Juni. In 2026 it was sold out with more than 13,000 starters; the 2027 date hasn't been published yet (bmw-berlin-marathon.com).
Then on Sunday, 26 September 2027, the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON starts on the Straße des 17. Juni, with the finish through the Brandenburger Tor. 2026 was the 52nd edition, with more than 56,000 registered runners. As at all World Marathon Majors, places are allocated by ballot. The shortcut is the free Registration Run, which the organizer holds shortly after the marathon: run the roughly 4.2 km and you get a code for a guaranteed, paid place the following year. In 2026 it took place on 1 October, and the code for 2027 can be redeemed until 12 November 2026 (bmw-berlin-marathon.com). You'll find more on the course and how the day works in our Berlin Marathon article.
If you're looking for more than tarmac and a finishing time, Berlin has formats you'll only find here.
100MeilenBerlin – Der Mauerweglauf (the Berlin Wall Trail run) covers around 161 km on the former Berlin Wall Trail once around West Berlin, solo or as a relay, starting and finishing at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark. The race commemorates the victims of the former border, and registration traditionally opens on 9 November at 6:57 pm. For 2027 it's been announced for 14 and 15 August, running clockwise, unlike in previous years (100meilen.de).
On 18 September 2027 it gets muddy twice. At the Trabrennbahn Karlshorst trotting track, the Muddy Angel Run covers 5 km and 18 obstacles, for women and girls aged 12 and over only; more than 6,000 took part in 2026 (muddyangelrun.com). On the Maifeld at the Olympiapark, the Obstacle City Run goes over 3, 6 or 12 km with 10 to 31 obstacles, with around 4,000 people in 2026 (obstacle-city-run.de).
At the BerlinTriathlon on 5 and 6 June 2027, you swim around the island at Treptower Park, and the bike and run courses are loops on closed roads. There are middle, Olympic, sprint and fitness distances, relays and a children's triathlon, and the Berliner Spreeschwimmen (Spree swim) over 1 km is new; 1,837 individual starters finished in 2026 (berlin-triathlon.de). The BerlinWoMan at the Strandbad Wannsee lido took place from 4 to 6 September 2026; according to the organizer, the next edition won't be until 2028 (berlin-wo-man.de).
One of Berlin's biggest corporate runs isn't an individual race at all, but a relay. At the Berliner Wasserbetriebe 5 x 5 km TEAM-Staffel (team relay), each member of a five-person team runs one lap through the Tiergarten between the Chancellery, the Siegessäule victory column and Schloss Bellevue, spread over three evenings. From 2 to 4 June 2026, 6,256 teams took part with more than 31,000 runners; for 2027 the organizer has so far only said "June" (berliner-teamstaffel.de).
The IKK BB Berliner Firmenlauf covers 5.5 km, starting and finishing at the Brandenburger Tor, for teams of three or more from companies, clubs, schools and public authorities, with rankings for skaters and wheelchair users too. It took place for the 24th time in 2026, and the 2027 date will be announced in the autumn (berliner-firmenlauf.de). At B2Run Berlin you run around 5.7 km around the Olympiastadion, finishing inside the stadium; around 18,000 people took part on 16 September 2026, and the 2027 date is still to come (b2run.de).
The VITAMIN WELL Frauenlauf Berlin (women's run) on 22 May 2027 calls itself "Germany's largest charity women's run". Since 1984, women and girls have started on the Straße des 17. Juni in the Tiergarten, running or walking 5 or 10 km; more than 12,500 took part in 2026, and €1 of every entry goes to the Berliner Krebsgesellschaft cancer society (berliner-frauenlauf.de).
Smaller, but with a long tradition, is the Life Run by the Berliner Aids-Hilfe on the Tempelhofer Feld – its 17th edition was on 6 September 2026, over 5 or 10 km and by bike too; the 2027 date is open (life-run.de). The Neujahrslauf and the Muddy Angel Run also raise donations; the Muddy Angel series supports Brustkrebs Deutschland, the German breast cancer charity.
There's no IRONMAN in Berlin itself, but there is one on the south-eastern edge of the city: the IRONMAN 70.3 Erkner on 12 September 2027 covers a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike through the flat Oder-Spree region and 21.1 km run, and the day before there's the 5150 Erkner over the Olympic distance. According to the organizer, Erkner is around 30 minutes from the city centre by bus and train; registration for 2027 isn't open yet (ironman.com).
At the big races, the ballot decides. The marathon and the half marathon allocate their places by ballot. If you don't want to rely on luck, there's the Registration Run for the marathon, and charity partners and tour operators for the half marathon. Other events simply fill up: the GENERALI 5K sold out in 2026, as did the Berliner Firmenlauf, and online registration for the Müggelsee-Halbmarathon closed before race day.
What it costs. The Neujahrslauf and the Registration Run are free, the early-bird price at the Tierparklauf was €27, and the SportScheck RUN starts at €40.
Two organizers shape the calendar. SCC EVENTS hosts the marathon, the half marathon, the City Night, the Frauenlauf, the TEAM-Staffel, the Generalprobe, the Neujahrslauf and the Silvesterlauf; TOP Sportevents ("Berlin läuft!") runs the S25, the Tierparklauf, the Great 10K and the BLN 10K. Keep an eye on both calendars and you'll know most of Berlin's dates.
Five places shape Berlin's running year. Around the Tiergarten and the Straße des 17. Juni you'll find the marathon, the Frauenlauf, the TEAM-Staffel and the Neujahrslauf. The Tempelhofer Feld belongs to the new formats and the SportScheck RUN. The Olympiapark brings together the S25, B2Run and the Obstacle City Run. In the south-east, between Treptower Park and the Müggelsee, are the triathlon, the Müggelturm run and the Müggelsee-Halbmarathon. And on New Year's Eve, the Grunewald belongs to the Pfannkuchenlauf.
Berlin's running year reads nicely as a build-up: the Müggelturm run in March, the half marathon and the S25 in April, the Generalprobe in August, the marathon in September. Even so, sticking with it for a whole year on your own is hard, especially when the long runs fall in the summer. Berlin has plenty of running groups (Lauftreffs) and run clubs that prepare for these dates together, from easy runs in the Tiergarten to midweek tempo sessions. And on race day it's nicer to know someone at the start. You'll find the right group among the running groups and run clubs in Berlin.
