More than 12,280 participants from 692 companies, five kilometres through central Mainz and a 2027 date the organiser had not announced by early October 2026. What team captains and colleagues can plan ahead.

On Thursday, 3 September 2026, more than 12,280 people from 692 companies lined up on the Große Bleiche for the Firmenlauf Mainz (Mainz corporate run) – a new participation record (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press release of 3 September 2026). Five kilometres through the city centre, four start waves, then an awards ceremony and after-run party on Ernst-Ludwig-Platz. The organiser had not published a 2027 date by early October 2026 (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, homepage and press & news). If you want to take part with your colleagues next year, you can still plan ahead, because the event follows a clear annual rhythm.
The Firmenlauf Mainz keeps growing. The eleventh edition in 2024 had 10,367 participants, 2025 had 11,919 from 637 companies, and 2026 more than 12,280 from 692 companies (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press releases 2024, 2025 and 2026). Until 2025 it was called "rocon Firmenlauf Mainz"; since 2026 it is simply Firmenlauf Mainz (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press & news). The organiser is magenta Event GmbH from Mainz; the patron is Lord Mayor Nino Haase (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press release of 3 September 2026).
| Year | Date | Participants | Companies |

The Firmenlauf Mainz is an independent event; it is not part of the B2Run series or the AOK corporate runs. How those series work is covered in our guides to B2Run 2027 and the AOK-Firmenlauf.
The organiser had not announced a 2027 date by early October 2026; the latest item on the website was the race report of 3 September 2026 (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press & news). Last year's cycle shows the pattern, though: the save-the-date for 3 September 2026 came on 1 October 2025, registration opened on 19 January 2026, and the digital press conference with the year's changes followed on 26 February 2026 (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press & news). The last two editions were both held on the first Thursday of September (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de). Whether 2027 follows suit stays open until the organiser confirms it.
For team captains, the 2026 pricing model matters. The entry fee rose by date, always on the 17th of the month (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, registration):
| Registration by | Price per person |
|---|---|
| 17 March 2026 | €26.50 plus 19% VAT |
| 17 May 2026 | €28.50 plus VAT |
| 17 July 2026 | €30.50 plus VAT |
| 17 August 2026 (online deadline) | €32.50 plus VAT |
| Late entry until shortly before the start | €39.50 incl. VAT |
Registration is binding: you cannot withdraw, and the fee is due even if you don't start. Places can, however, be transferred within the company, free of charge by the team captain until the online deadline (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, registration and FAQ). Registering early saves money and leaves time to swap names.
One more reason to move fast: in 2026 every pitch, team tent and beer-table set was eventually booked out (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, team area). If your team wants a fixed meeting point, book it together with the registration.
The start is on Bauhofstraße. The course runs along the Große Bleiche with a short loop onto Große Langgasse. At kilometre 2.5 it turns from Holzhofstraße onto Dagobertstraße, where the water station is. The way back runs parallel to Rheinstraße across Domplatz (the cathedral square) and past the Staatstheater towards the Große Bleiche. According to the organiser, the last kilometre from the cathedral to the finish is lined with spectators (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info).
The course is flat, on tarmac and partly on paving, and fully low-barrier (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info). In practice: elevation doesn't matter, cobbles do. Around the cathedral a shorter stride helps, especially in the rain. Nordic walking poles, buggies and dogs are not allowed for safety reasons (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, FAQ).
New in 2026 were four start blocks at 18:15, 18:30, 18:45 and 19:00, meant to cut waiting times in the start pen and give runners more space (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press release of 26 February 2026). You pick your start time when registering, subject to availability (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, registration). If fast and slow colleagues want to run together, book one block as a group rather than individually.
The clock isn't the only thing that counts in Mainz. Awards go to the largest teams (every team with more than 100 runners gets a trophy), the companies with the most apprentices ("Azubi-Superstar") and the fastest teams of three in women's, men's and mixed categories. In 2026 a special ranking for skilled-trade businesses (Handwerk) was added (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info).
Since 2026 you no longer have to set up the teams of three yourself: a company's three fastest runners are automatically grouped into a men's, women's or mixed team (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info). The 2026 winning times show what that takes (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press release of 3 September 2026):
| Category 2026 | Winner | Total time | Average per person (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mixed | LEX Laufexperten Mainz-Wiesbaden | 0:51:39 | approx. 17:13 |
| Men | BioNTech | 0:52:49 | approx. 17:36 |
| Women | #TeamUM – University Medical Center Mainz | 0:58:22 | approx. 19:27 |
| Skilled trades (mixed) | TT 1884 Holding | 1:01:43 | approx. 20:34 |
So a podium in the mixed or men's ranking needs all three runners under 18 minutes for 5 km. For most companies the size ranking is more realistic: in 2026 the City of Mainz fielded the largest team with 448 participants, ahead of the University Medical Center (439) and BioNTech (423). The city also won the apprentice ranking with 57 trainees (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press release of 3 September 2026). Smaller businesses in the trades have a category of their own, where the winning time was far more accessible.
The Firmenlauf is an after-work event. This was the 2026 schedule (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info):
The team captain collects the bibs for the whole team – in 2026 either on the Monday before from 14:00 to 18:00 or on race day. The invoice must be paid beforehand (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info). The fee includes timing, an online certificate, water on the course and non-alcoholic beer, water and fruit at the finish (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, registration). A bag drop opens at 17:00; collect your things by 20:00 (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, FAQ). The minimum age is 15. Private individuals can enter too – they just register a made-up company name (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, registration and FAQ).
On race day your bib works as a ticket in RMV fare zone 65 (Mainz/Wiesbaden) – buses, trams and DB regional trains (RE, RB, S-Bahn) in second class – until 4:00 the next morning (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info). Driving is tricky: in 2026 the course was fully closed from 18:00 to 20:15, several city-centre car parks were inaccessible during that time, and the first closures started in the morning (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, traffic notice of 31 August 2026). The Große Bleiche between Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße and Peter-Altmeier-Allee has also been permanently closed to cars since 30 July 2026 (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info). Bikes can be parked on Ernst-Ludwig-Platz until 22:00 (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info).
For many colleagues, five kilometres is their first running distance ever. The organiser offers six-week training plans for beginners and intermediate runners. In 2026 the main sponsor's AG Run Club also met every Monday at 19:00 from 25 May at the Brückenkopf in Mainz, in two ability groups with coaches (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info). Whether there will be a similar offer in 2027 had not been announced by early October 2026.
Our tip for team captains: count six weeks back from race day and set one fixed company run per week from there, ideally straight after work at the same time as the later start. Everyone gets used to running in the early evening and learns their pace before standing in the start block. If you want more company beyond the office run, you'll find regular groups and run clubs under running in Mainz.
If the Firmenlauf leaves you wanting a longer distance, the same city has one: the Gutenberg Halbmarathon Mainz. Every other race, from the Polderlauf to the Nikolauslauf, is listed in running events in Mainz. And if you work in Frankfurt, you may know the Rhine-Main counterpart: the JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge Frankfurt is a corporate run too, but with a very different format.
If you're travelling or on holiday on race day, you can still run for your team. In the Virtual Run you cover the 5 km on a route of your choice with the viRACE app – in 2026 between Wednesday 2 and Sunday 6 September. You register through the normal online registration; results and certificates appear in a separate list (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, race info and homepage).
For every participant, magenta Event GmbH donates €1 to clubs and projects in the region, and in 2026 for the first time to its charity partner DKMS as well (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press release of 26 February 2026). After the 2025 season this added up to more than €11,900, including running clubs such as ALV Mainz and the Laufleben Running Crew (Source: firmenlauf-mainz.de, press & news and race info).
