AOK-Firmenlauf Dortmund 2027: 6.7 km around Phoenix Lake

In short

Once round Phoenix Lake and back to the blast furnace: the AOK-Firmenlauf Dortmund (company run) covers 6.7 km from Phoenix-West along the Elias-Bahntrasse, a former railway line turned path, around the lake in Hörde (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Dein Lauf). The last edition on Thursday, 11 June 2026 sold out its 3,000 places, and according to the Ruhr Nachrichten around 3,000 people started (sources: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Anmeldung; ruhrnachrichten.de). The 2027 date has not been published; the registration page says "Registration for the AOK-Firmenlauf Dortmund 2027 coming soon" (as of 3 October 2026).

AOK-Firmenlauf or B2Run Dortmund?

Dortmund has two big company runs, and they often get mixed up. B2Run Dortmund belongs to the national B2Run series, takes place in May and finishes in Westfalenpark. The AOK-Firmenlauf is a separate event with a different organiser, about a month later, entirely in the south of the city on Phoenix-West and around Phoenix Lake. Teams can do both; registrations are separate.

6.7 km: from the blast furnace to the lake and back

Start and finish are on the Phoenix-Platz on Phoenix-West, right at the event site. The course follows tarmac roads and paths along the Elias-Bahntrasse to Phoenix Lake, once round the lake and back to the blast furnace (sources: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, home and Dein Lauf; ruhrnachrichten.de, 2025 preview).

Three spots worth knowing:

The swinging bridge: on the way to the lake you cross a bridge that gives a little under many feet. The organiser's only comment: "Please don't be alarmed."
Two-way traffic on the railway path: because the out and back legs partly share the path, the front runners meet the back of the field. The organiser's tip: keep left both ways.
Water at the yacht harbour: the only drinks station on course is level with the Phoenix Lake marina.

Expected finishing times are marked in the start area, so you and your team can line up in the right corral (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Dein Lauf). If you want a fast time, start near the front, keep the first two kilometres to the lake controlled and gain places on the lake loop. Walkers are explicitly welcome, poles are not (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Streckeninfos).

Here the clock counts

Unlike some AOK runs in Westphalia, Dortmund uses chip timing on the bib; you can pull up your time and certificate by QR code right after finishing. Honoured on stage:

the three fastest men and women,
the three fastest men's and women's teams, based on the combined time of a company's three fastest starters,
the company with the most participants,
the fastest male and female apprentice,
the fastest female and male boss.

2026 fees and deadlines as a guide

2027 prices have not been published. In 2026 the tiers were (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Anmeldung):

The fee included a finisher medal, water on course and at the finish, and a bib with your first name if you registered by the closing date. Posting the race packs cost €9.90 (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Anmeldung). If your squad is not settled yet, you can reserve places and add names later – for a sold-out event that is the safest route.

Fees were the same in 2025, when the 15th AOK-Firmenlauf took place on 5 June; weeks beforehand around 2,700 people from about 135 companies had registered, according to the Ruhr Nachrichten (source: ruhrnachrichten.de, 2025 preview).

Getting to Hörde, showers, bags

Public transport: the local operator DSW21 is a partner of the run; connections and tickets are in the DSW21 app (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, Streckeninfos).
Car: parking on Antonio-Segni-Straße, signposted on race day. Cars that obstruct the event are towed.
Bike: in the side streets, at your own risk.
Showers and changing: at the Marie-Reinders-Realschule, about 100 m from the Phoenix-Platz.
Bags: there was no bag drop in 2026. Arrive changed or leave your bag with colleagues who are not running.

After-run on the Phoenix-Platz

After the run the Phoenix-Platz turns into a party. In 2026 Catering-by-Mohr handled food and drinks; teams could pre-order up to two team tables and food vouchers (minimum €15), everyone else buys on the night. Bringing your own food and drinks onto the site is not allowed, and there is a €2 deposit on every cup (source: aok-firmenlauf-dortmund.de, After Run). If your team wants a fixed spot for the evening, order a table in good time; in 2026 the deadline was the end of May.

6.7 km with colleagues: how to get there

6.7 km is more than the usual 5 at many company runs. It is very doable for colleagues who do not run yet, but needs some lead time. A plan counting back from a June date:

From March: twice a week for 30 minutes, alternating walking and running. Sticking with it matters more than pace.
April: lengthen the running spells until you can manage 20 to 25 minutes in one go.
May: once a week, the actual loop around Phoenix Lake. The loop is public, you can run it any time, and knowing the course calms the nerves on race day.
June: easy running only in the final week.
