On Friday, 17 September 2027, the last 10K does not start until 10:30 pm. What to know about RUN versus SpeedRUN, the city loop and racing late at night.

When the last starting gun fires in Hanover, it is 10:30 pm. The SportScheck RUN Hanover is a Friday-evening event: on 17 September 2027 runners set off from Opernplatz, the opera square, through the city centre over 5 or 10 kilometres, plus a 1-kilometre kids' run (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027). If you run the 10K in the main field, you may not cross the finish line until shortly before midnight, depending on your pace. That calls for different planning than a Sunday-morning race – and that is what this page is about.
| Time | Race |
|---|---|
| 7:30 pm | 1 km Kids RUN |
| 8:00 pm | 5K RUN |
| 9:00 pm | 5K SpeedRUN |
| 9:30 pm | 10K SpeedRUN |
| 10:30 pm | 10K RUN |

Entry fees for 2027: the 5K costs €36 at Super Early Bird, €42 at Early Bird and €48 at the regular price, the 10K €48, €54 and €60, the kids' run €8 to €10 (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027). Super Early Bird runs until eight months before the event, which works out at mid-January 2027; on 3 October 2026 the ticket shop showed "from €36" (source: sportscheck.com, ticket shop Hanover). The shirt-instead-of-bib rule, pricing model and ticket terms are the same in every city of the series – details are in our SportScheck RUN overview.
No other city in the series splits its races like this: both distances start twice, once as RUN and once as SpeedRUN with its own start slot (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027). The 2026 result lists show what that means in practice:
| 2026 | Finishers (rounded) | Fastest time | Last time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5K RUN | c. 3,000 | 17:24 | 57:01 |
| 5K SpeedRUN | c. 200 | 14:42 | 24:31 |
| 10K SpeedRUN | c. 500 | 30:31 | 51:56 |
| 10K RUN | c. 2,400 | 37:54 | 1:26:50 |

So the SpeedRUN is a small, fast field: over 5K even the last finisher in 2026 came in under 25 minutes. The main field is many times bigger and far more mixed. We did not find a fixed entry standard for the SpeedRUN on the organiser's pages; check the conditions when you buy your ticket.
One honest question helps you choose: do you want to run a time or enjoy an evening? If you are aiming for sub-50 minutes over 10K, the SpeedRUN gives you a clear road and you start at 9:30 pm rather than 10:30 pm. If you are running with friends, tackling 10K for the first time or simply want to go with the crowd, the RUN suits you better. Pacers with flags by target time are available in both (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027).
The 5K covers the loop once, the 10K twice (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027). The course map in the guide is stamped "HAN 2026" and is subject to change. It shows streets such as Georgstraße, Aegidientorplatz, Friedrichswall by the New Town Hall, Leinstraße, Karmarschstraße and Schmiedestraße – a loop through the old town and the shopping streets around Kröpcke. The map also marks an aid station, a cheering zone and changing tents plus bag drop at Opernplatz (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027).
For the 10K this means you pass the start again at halfway. That is when friends on the sidelines help most, and the point to check honestly whether you went out too fast. A city loop has corners and turns; expect to lose a few seconds there compared with a straight course.
A late-evening race shifts your whole day. A few things to plan for:
Every finisher gets a medal, plus drinks, bananas and pretzel sticks. At the "award ceremony for everyone" pre-drawn placings win prizes, and you find out right after crossing the line whether you are one of them (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Hanover 2027).
Mid-September is a forgiving date: you can use the whole summer to build up, and the long evenings of July and August make late sessions easy. If you ran the Hanover Marathon in spring, the SportScheck RUN gives you a second, shorter goal for autumn. If you already run regularly, three sessions a week over eight to ten weeks are enough for a 10K – one easy long run, one with some pace.
A group makes it easier, especially for late sessions at dusk. You will find a Lauftreff (group run) or run club with fixed weekly slots at running in Hanover. Groups can book up to 100 tickets together; for seven or more, one person collects all race packs and announces this by email first (source: sportscheck.com, help pages).
