AOK Firmenlauf Bielefeld 2027: 25 August at the Kesselbrink

The 13th AOK Firmenlauf Bielefeld (company run) takes place on Wednesday, 25 August 2027. Start and finish are at the Kesselbrink square, the gun goes at 7 pm, and the organiser plans for up to 4,000 participants (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com). Registration opens on 15 January 2027 (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Anmeldung). Nobody gets a finishing time here, only a medal – and companies are ranked not by speed but by how much of their workforce turned up.

The event is run by the agency anlauf GmbH, with the AOK health insurer as naming partner (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com). There is no central AOK series in the way there is with B2Run; what the AOK runs have in common is explained in our overview of AOK company runs.

Three start areas in three years

Few company runs have moved their centre as often. For years it was the Rathausplatz (town hall square). In 2025 the run moved to the Niederwall because the Rathausplatz had become "simply too tight"; more than 2,700 people from over 170 companies ran the new course (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, 2025 review).

It did not go entirely smoothly. Roadworks forced a short-notice shortening of the 2025 course, which the organiser admits caused frustration. For 2026 the run therefore moved again, to the Kesselbrink, and the course was lengthened; the June 2026 announcement gave 5.1 km (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, news of 4 June 2026). The info page now describes a course of "around 6 km" through the city centre, deliberately chosen so that colleagues who do not usually run can join in (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf). The exact 2027 route has not been published yet, so train for 5 to 6 km.

One local quirk remains: parts of the course are open to cars. The organiser asks runners to follow the marshals and to expect the odd ambulance or wrong-way driver (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf). Keep headphones low or leave them at home.

No stopwatch: how Bielefeld ranks teams

Under the motto "fit2gether", the run has never had official timing. The organiser argues that performance pressure would keep less experienced colleagues away; if you want your time, use an app (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf). There are still trophies, just for different things:

(Source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf.) In 2025 the City of Bielefeld, Dr. August Oetker KG and Klinikum Bielefeld took the top three places in the largest class; in the 501–1,000 class it was Sparkasse Bielefeld, JAB Anstoetz and Stockmeier Chemicals (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, 2025 review). According to the local paper Neue Westfälische, the costume prize went to an inflatable dinosaur (source: nw.de, 2026 preview).

What it costs: company fee plus "shift"

Pricing has two parts. Each company pays a fee by size, plus an entry fee per person. That fee rises not by date but by how many places are already taken – the tiers are named early, midday, late and night shift (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Anmeldung).

Company fee (plus VAT) Entry fee per person
up to 10 employees €10 Early shift (places 1–500) €15
11–50 €20 Midday shift (501–1,500) €18
51–200 €30 Late shift (from 1,501) €20
201–500 €40 Night shift (on site, incl. VAT) €25
over 500 €50 Virtual run (plus VAT) €10

Registration goes through each company's team lead, who can swap names free of charge until online registration closes on 10 August. Late entries are possible on the day while places remain (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Anmeldung). Register early in the year and you will very likely land in the cheapest shift. Every company receives an invoice with a participant list (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf).

The evening at the Kesselbrink

The last schedule shows how the evening runs: arrival and late entries at the info point from 5 pm, programme from 5:30 pm, a joint warm-up in front of the stage at 6:45 pm, start at 7 pm. Awards follow at around 8:30 pm, a DJ plays from 9 pm, and it ends at 10 pm (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf).

Why a Wednesday? The organiser's answer: there should be a party, but two to three hours are enough, and everyone should turn up fresh for work the next morning. The start time is a compromise between people who finish work early and those who work until 8 pm (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf).

Practical notes: there are no changing rooms, only a toilet trailer, so most people arrive in kit. Food and drinks are paid for with "Läufer-Euros" (runner tokens) bought on site in cash. Grab safety pins at the bib desk (source: firmenlauf-bielefeld.com, Infos zum Lauf).

Building a team that wins on turnout

Because the company ranking counts participation share rather than pace, the winner is not the firm with the fastest runners but the one that gets the most colleagues moving. The key person on your team is not the marathoner in sales but whoever talks everyone else into it in spring.

A possible plan:

If you would rather not train alone, join an open group: Lauftreffs (group runs) and run clubs with weekly sessions are listed under running in Bielefeld. All races in the city, including a second company run at the Sparrenburg castle in May, are on our Bielefeld race calendar. And if the company run gives you a taste for more, look at the Hermannslauf: in April, from the Hermann monument in Detmold to the Sparrenburg – a very different challenge from the after-work loop at the Kesselbrink.

Similar after-work runs with a company ranking in Westphalia are the AOK-Firmenlauf Dortmund at Phoenix Lake and the AOK-Firmenlauf im Märkischen Kreis in Lüdenscheid.
