Great 10K Berlin 2027: 10 km from Charlottenburg Palace

The Berliner Morgenpost Great 10K is a 10-kilometre road race that starts and finishes at Charlottenburg Palace (Schloss Charlottenburg). It has been held since 2008, every October (source: de.wikipedia.org, The Great 10k Berlin). The 2026 edition took place on 11 October 2026 and was announced with around 7,000 runners (source: berlin-laeuft.de, Great 10K, news of 19 September 2026). The 2027 date is still to come: the organiser Berlin läuft! has not published it yet (as of 3 October 2026). This page collects what you can plan for the next edition and turns the 2026 numbers into something useful for your training.

What makes the Great 10K different

The organiser calls it "Germany's fastest city race" (source: berlin-laeuft.de, Great 10K). That claim can't be checked, but the ingredients for fast times are documented: the course is flat and runs from the palace via Ernst-Reuter-Platz and Straße des 17. Juni to the Zoological Garden (source: berlin-laeuft.de, news of 19 September 2026). According to Wikipedia it follows Spandauer Damm and Otto-Suhr-Allee to the Großer Stern roundabout, passes the Victory Column, loops through the zoo and returns via Budapester Straße, Kantstraße and Schloßstraße (source: de.wikipedia.org). The organiser also lists the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and Bikini Berlin along the way (source: berlin-laeuft.de, news of 5 September 2026).

The pros run up front. The course record belongs to Leonard Komon with 27:12 from 2010 (source: berlin-laeuft.de, news of 19 September 2026); for women, Wikipedia lists Joyce Chepkirui's 30:37 from 2013 (source: de.wikipedia.org). In 2025 Simon Boch won in 28:17 and Alina Reh finished third in 32:06 (source: berlin-laeuft.de, news of 19 September 2026). Wikipedia counts 4,471 finishers in 2025 (source: de.wikipedia.org). Results of the 2026 edition will appear on the organiser's results page once published.

The 2026 edition as a template

One detail in the price table stands out: the cheapest 2026 tier ran until 19 October 2025, a week after the 2025 race (source: berlin-laeuft.de, prices). Booking early meant €30 for the 10 km instead of €45 in the autumn or €55 as a late entry. Whether 2027 registration will again open right after the race hasn't been announced, but it is worth keeping an eye on the official Great 10K site in October. Entry fees are not refunded, but until late entry opens, 14 days before race day, you can transfer your place to someone else for free (source: berlin-laeuft.de, prices).

Pacing a 10K PB

Ten kilometres is short enough to run almost entirely at threshold and long enough to lose everything with one over-eager first kilometre. Three details from the 2026 participant information help:

Your start corral depends on your target time. There are corrals B1 to B3. If you don't enter a target time when registering, you're put in B3 (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information). The 10 km and the relay start together at 11:00, so starting too far back means spending the first kilometre overtaking. Enter an honest target time.

There is only one water station. It sits at km 6 between Uhlandstraße and Fasanenstraße and is 150 metres long (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information). For 10 km in October that's enough for most runners; just plan to drink calmly rather than grabbing in a hurry.

Pacers set the rhythm. In 2026 pacers with flags ran for 45, 50, 55 and 60 minutes, and for 25 minutes on the short course (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information). Sub-50 means 5:00 per kilometre. Tuck in behind the 50-minute flag, stay calm until km 7, and you'll have something left for the last three kilometres back to the palace.

If 10 km still feels too long, the 4.2 km short course is a good first race. It starts at the zoo's Elephant Gate and also finishes at the palace; with a 45-minute limit you can walk it too (source: berlin-laeuft.de, short course). Our 5K to 10K training plan shows how to step up.

Going with your running group: relay and group discount

Two options suit running groups. In the 2 x 5 km relay two people run five kilometres each. The handover is at Katharina-Heinroth-Ufer at km 5, only the team's 10 km time counts, the timing chip sits in the baton, and the second runner collects both medals at the finish (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information). Handy detail: in 2026 the relay bib doubled as a public transport ticket in Berlin from 8:00 to 14:00, so the first runner could get to the handover point (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information).

Groups of 15 or more get 10% off entry fees and can collect bibs together. Group entries go through the Berlin läuft! team and are not possible during late entry (source: berlin-laeuft.de, prices). For a run club planning to race together: close your list early and register as a group.

For the tempo sessions beforehand, you'll find a Lauftreff (group run) or run club near you on Running in Berlin. After the finish, 2026 had a festival in front of the palace with a stage, food trucks and a chill-out area, plus apples, water and beer in the finish area (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information). A good place to meet up as a group.

Getting to Charlottenburg Palace

Parking is limited and the organiser recommends public transport. From the U7 (Richard-Wagner-Platz), the U2 (Sophie-Charlotte-Platz) and the Ringbahn (Westend) it's about a 15-minute walk each. Buses don't run on Spandauer Damm and Schloßstraße on race day (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information). In 2026 the venue opened at 9:00 and the corrals at 10:40; a kit bag came with your bib (source: berlin-laeuft.de, participant information).

The Great 10K in Berlin's running year

On the Berlin läuft! calendar the Great 10K comes after the VOLVO Tierparklauf, whose next edition is on 11 and 12 September 2027 (source: berlin-laeuft.de). In spring the same organiser stages the S 25 Berlin at the Olympic Stadium on 18 April 2027 (source: berlin-laeuft.de). If you want to finish the autumn with a fast 10K, the Tierparklauf works as a fitness test. All other races in the city are listed in the overview of running events in Berlin.
