SportScheck RUN Munich 2027: half marathon at the Siegestor

Munich had the biggest field of the 2026 stops held so far and is the only one you could almost call a half-marathon event: in 2026, around 6,200 people finished the 21.1 kilometres according to the result lists, more than any other distance (rounded, source: my.raceresult.com, SportScheck RUN Munich 2026). The next edition is on Sunday, 4 July 2027, with start and finish at the Siegestor, Munich's victory arch (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Munich 2027). According to the organiser, the half marathon and 10K were sold out before race day in 2026 (source: spoferan.com, 2026 results). If you want to run in 2027, do not wait until June.

Looking back: 5 July 2026 in numbers

Distance Finishers 2026 (rounded) Fastest man Fastest woman
Half marathon c. 6,200 1:15:38 1:21:22
10K c. 5,400 33:28 35:40
5K c. 2,300 16:37 19:23

According to the result lists that adds up to around 13,900 finishers across the three adult distances – more than twice as many as Hanover's roughly 6,200 (rounded, source: my.raceresult.com, 2026 result lists). Daniel Gottstein won the half marathon by three seconds (source: spoferan.com, 2026 results). The winning times also show this is not an elite race up front. Most of the field are people who want to run a Sunday-morning half marathon in the city.

Three start times, three different races

Time Race Cut-off
8:00 am Half marathon 3 hours
8:20 am 2 km Kids RUN (two 1 km laps) –
11:00 am 10K RUN 1:45 hours
12:45 pm 5K RUN 1 hour

The cut-offs come with a Munich twist: if you are slower you may keep going, but the sweeper bike will tell you once runners from the next distance are coming towards you; from then on you continue at your own risk (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Munich 2027). For the half marathon this means anyone taking more than three hours is still out on the course when the 10K starts at 11 am.

English Garden and the Isar

The courses lead from the Siegestor through the English Garden. In 2026 the half-marathon loop reached the Eiskanal, the 10K passed beneath the Isarring and the 5K went past the Monopteros and the Chinese Tower (source: spoferan.com, 2026 results). According to the guide, all three distances run a single loop; the course map is stamped "MUC 2026" and is subject to change. It shows Ludwigstraße, the Hofgarten, Oettingenstraße, Ifflandstraße, the Föhringer Ring and the Isar, plus aid stations and a cheering zone (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Munich 2027).

For pacing this means one big loop rather than several small ones, much of it through the park. The organiser does not publish an official elevation figure, so pace by feel rather than by a plan that assumes a pancake-flat course.

July in Munich: racing the clock and the sun

In early July the tricky part is not the course but the time of day. The 8 am half marathon is the smartest start of the day: if you need two hours, you are done by 10. The 10K at 11 am and especially the 5K at 12:45 pm fall around midday. Plan your preparation backwards from 4 July:

For emergencies the organiser also recommends the free SaveNow app in Munich, which lets you call helpers at the push of a button (source: sportscheck.com, Starterinfo Munich 2027).

How the shirt, ticket terms and pricing work across the series is explained in our SportScheck RUN overview.

A Munich summer full of races

The SportScheck RUN sits in a busy summer. If you ran the Wings for Life World Run in May, 4 July is your next goal. In 2026, B2Run Munich followed ten days later in the Olympic Park – a corporate run with company team rankings and so a completely different format; its 2027 date is still to come. And if the half marathon leaves you wanting more, the Munich Marathon follows in autumn. Everything else in the city is listed at running events in Munich.

A group helps you through the spring build-up: long runs along the Isar on Sunday mornings, faster sessions during the week. You will find a Lauftreff (group run) or run club at running in Munich. If you start together, you can book up to 100 tickets in one go (source: sportscheck.com, help pages).
