Stuttgart-Lauf 2027: half marathon in the NeckarPark on 6 June

The 34th Stuttgart-Lauf (Stuttgart Run) takes place on 5 and 6 June 2027, with the Kids Day on Saturday and the adult races on Sunday (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news of 28 September 2026). Its centrepiece is the half marathon, which starts in the NeckarPark in Bad Cannstatt and in 2026 finished inside the stadium, in the MHP Arena. Registration is expected to open from December; details on courses and the finish will follow shortly (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news of 28 September 2026). If you want to run in 2027, do not miss registration: in 2026 the half marathon sold out almost four weeks before race day.

Half marathon: the core of the weekend

The Stuttgart-Lauf has no marathon. The longest distance is the officially measured half marathon, which is also offered as a relay (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, overview). In 2026, 8,835 half marathon runners started at 9:00, five minutes after the 27 handbikers sent off by Mayor Frank Nopper (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, 2026 recap).

The 2026 course ran from Benzstraße via Augsburger Straße and Gnesener Straße through Bad Cannstatt and Untertürkheim, then via Hofener Straße, Tegernsee Straße and Hartwaldstraße around Kelterplatz in Hofen, on along Au- and Neckartalstraße through Münster and across Bad Cannstatt's old town. The finish was reached via the Veielbrunnen quarter, Hanna-Henning-Straße and Martin-Schrenk-Weg into the MHP Arena (source: stuttgart.de, traffic measures for the 33rd Stuttgart-Lauf). The organiser publishes an elevation profile for the half marathon and the 10 km on the race pages (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news "Höhenmeter"); it does not state a figure in the news. Check the profile once the 2027 course is online and plan accordingly.

The stadium finish is what many people single out. One pacer names the mix of "Swabian wine-glass mentality along the course" and the goosebump moment of the stadium entry as the best thing about the Stuttgart-Lauf (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, 2026 pacer team, via web.archive.org). Whether the 2027 finish will again be in the arena is not yet confirmed: information "on the finish" is still to come (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, homepage).

Finishing with a pacer

Pacers from the regional parkrun community run the half marathon and the 10 km. You recognise them by shirts showing their target time and a backpack with a flag (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news on pacers). In 2026 there were half marathon groups from 1:30 in five-minute steps up to at least 2:00 (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, 2026 pacer team, via web.archive.org).

For your race: before the start, pick the group that matches your realistic goal, not your dream goal. If you start with the 1:55 group and feel good after 15 km, you can still pull away at the end. If you chase a flag that is too fast in the early kilometres, the way home is long. Places 1 to 10 are ranked by gun time, everyone else by net time, and age groups and teams by net time from first place (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, FAQ). For almost everyone, the clock starts when you cross the start line.

When to enter? The half marathon filled early in 2026

There are no prices and no registration date for 2027 yet; registration is currently expected to open from December (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news of 28 September 2026). The 2026 experience argues for deciding early:

The WLV deliberately capped the half marathon and 10 km in 2026 to test the new schedule, the new course and the finish-area catering (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, 2026 recap). How big the fields will be in 2027 is open. There was no official bib exchange in 2026, but anyone unable to run could transfer their place to someone else via the change link until 60 minutes before the start (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news "half marathon sold out"). Whether that applies again in 2027 will be in the terms once registration opens.

A June half marathon is run in spring

From today, 3 October, to 6 June there are just over 35 weeks. Count backwards and you will see how much of that is real training and how much is groundwork:

The advantage of a June date: the long runs fall in spring, with daylight morning and evening. The downside: a warm June morning can cost you the pace that felt easy in cool April. Do some sessions deliberately in the midday warmth, and on warm runs practise drinking the way you plan to in the race. Long runs are easier in a group. Stuttgart's Lauftreffs (group runs) and run clubs with weekly sessions are listed under Running in Stuttgart; many of the pacers come from the region's parkrun events, held every Saturday (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news on pacers).

More than a race: diversity, regulars, Kids Day

In 2026 the Stuttgart-Lauf introduced its own overall category for TIN* people (trans*, inter* and non-binary participants) in the half marathon, 10 km and FunRun. There is a dedicated option at registration, pronouns can go on the bib, and on site some changing rooms and toilets are gender-neutral (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news of 14 December 2025). On 17 May 2026 the Stuttgart-Lauf became the first running event in Germany to receive the German Athletics Association's "gender-inclusive running event" label (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, news of 19 May 2026).

Loyalty is rewarded: anyone who has stood on a start line in the NeckarPark at least 25 times can join the "Club der 25er" and gets free entry for life (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, history). On Saturday the venue belongs to the children: more than 2,400 ran at the 2026 Kids Day, from the toddlers' race to the mini-marathon and the handbike mini-marathon (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, 2026 recap and overview). Running buggies and prams are not allowed on course (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, FAQ).

Getting there and on site

In 2026 your entry included a free VVS ticket for buses and trains in the Stuttgart transport network (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, overview and travel tips). To the NeckarPark ran the S1 to NeckarPark (Stadion), bus 45 and a special U11 line between Rotebühlplatz and NeckarPark, every ten minutes on Sunday morning. There was guarded bike parking at P9 (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, travel tips). On site you will find showers, changing rooms, toilets, bag storage and medal engraving; the award ceremonies take place at the Maultaschen party (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, overview). If your health insurer rewards races in its bonus programme, you can get a stamp at the runners' info desk, though the certificate is usually enough (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, FAQ).

How it differs, and other events

The Stuttgart-Lauf is not a corporate run, although companies can book meeting points for their teams on site (source: stuttgart-lauf.de, overview). If you want to run with colleagues, Stuttgart has its own formats: the AOK Firmenlauf Stuttgart and B2Run Stuttgart. All races in the region across the year are listed under Running events in Stuttgart.

If you see the half marathon as a stepping stone: other big half marathons include the Mainz Half Marathon and the Berlin Half Marathon, and if you are planning a full marathon next, the dates are in the Marathon calendar 2027.
