At B2Run Hamburg in 2026, just 50 people were enough for a small business to win the biggest-team ranking. The 2027 date is still to come – here's how to build a team that makes the podium, and how the evening at the Volksparkstadion runs.

B2Run Hamburg is smaller than the Berlin or Hanover editions, and that's exactly what makes it interesting for teams. On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, 9,750 people from 544 companies took on the 5.6 kilometres through the Altonaer Volkspark, more than ever before in Hamburg (Source: b2run.de, press release Hamburg 2026). The organiser hasn't named a date for 2027 yet: 2027 date to follow (as of 3 October 2026, Source: b2run.de).
The basics of the series – how a team captain registers, how the five-person ranking works – are in our overview B2Run 2027.
In brief: the 2026 edition
Date: Tuesday, 25 August 2026, first wave at 5 pm, five waves in total, 15 minutes apart (Source: b2run.de, A-Z and press release Hamburg 2026)
Course: about 5.6 km, a largely flat loop finishing inside the Volksparkstadion (Source: b2run.de, course Hamburg)
Participants: 9,750 from 544 companies, about 1,000 more than in 2025 (Source: b2run.de, press release Hamburg 2026)
Latest price: €36.90 at the regular rate plus VAT; the opening and early-bird rates had sold out (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg)
The location's home page says "about 5 km", while the course page and the press releases say 5.6 km. Plan for 5.6.
The date moves around, by the way: in 2025 B2Run Hamburg didn't take place until 16 September, as the 14th edition with about 8,500 participants from 498 companies (Source: b2run.de, report Hamburg 2025). So one year's date is no reliable guide to the next.
"Die Fittesten" in Hamburg: small numbers, a real chance
Besides the fastest runners, B2Run honours the companies with the most participants, split by size: corporation (more than 1,000 employees), company (251 to 1,000) and SME (fewer than 250) (Source: b2run.de, "Die Fittesten" Hamburg 2026). In Berlin in 2026, a corporation needed 629 people to win (Source: b2run.de, press release Berlin 2026). In Hamburg, the winning numbers looked like this:
Category
2025
2026
Corporation
Airbus, 242
Airbus Operations GmbH, 219
Company
Getriebebau NORD and KPMG AG, 100 each
KPMG AG, 100
SME
Avionic Design GmbH, 35
Arbeitgeberverband Stade Elbe-Weser-Dreieck, 50
(Source: b2run.de, report 2025 and press release Hamburg 2026)
For a company with 150 people, that means: get a third of the staff to the start and the trophy is within reach. Here's how to build that team:
Set a number early. Use last year's winning number as the target, not "as many as possible". 51 is a number you can campaign for in the office kitchen.
Explicitly invite walkers. Walkers start with a normal ticket in any block, Nordic walkers in their own area in the last wave (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg). For "Die Fittesten", every bib counts the same.
Plan the evening as a team event. People who only run come once. People who sit together at the team tent afterwards come back. Beer-tent tables and team tents can be booked; in 2026 with a minimum order of €100 per table set or €200 per team stand, net (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg).
Book early, top up later. Prices don't rise by date but as soon as a quota is sold (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg). Book a realistic number first and add more when more colleagues sign up.
If you're aiming for the fastest team time instead: the five fastest per team and category count. In 2026, DB/VDES won the men's ranking in 1:42:10 hours for all five, Airbus the women's in 2:11:21 and TKMS the mixed in 1:56:21 (Source: b2run.de, press release Hamburg 2026). For the men, that's an average of just under 20:30 minutes per person.
Who led in 2026
The fastest man was Tobias Middendorf (DB/VDES) in 18:38 minutes, ahead of Jakob Wilkens (Siemens, 18:47) and Mattes Radusch (Lufthansa Technik, 18:57). The women's race was won by Magdalena Fink (Penske Sportwagen Hamburg) in 22:24, ahead of Svenja Sabrina Tänzer (22:30) and Christina Brockmann (Airbus, 23:07) (Source: b2run.de, press release Hamburg 2026). To race for those places you need a "Durchstarter" ticket for the front block; the organiser recommends it only for men under 4 and women under 5 minutes per kilometre (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg).
Late August: training through high summer
A late-August date means the key phase of preparation falls in July and August. Company teams also have holiday season to deal with: if you're away for two weeks in July, build a base beforehand and don't try to make everything up afterwards.
Run early or late. Start time on event day is 5 pm or later; on hot days training works better in the morning or late evening. More on handling heat in Running in the heat.
Time, not kilometres. In the heat, pace is a poor guide. Plan sessions in minutes and run at a pace where you can still talk.
Together, not alone. A fixed loop with colleagues on the same weekday holds up even through the holidays. You'll find open Lauftreffs (group runs) and run clubs in the city at Running in Hamburg – handy for anyone left alone in the office over summer.
On event day: there are no showers; changing areas are east of the stadium on the grounds (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg).
Getting to Bahrenfeld
From the S-Bahn you still need a bus, so it's worth checking your route beforehand (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg):
S-Bahn: S5 from the main station towards Elbgaustraße to Stellingen (Arenen), then regular bus 180 or the shuttle.
Shuttle: in 2026 a shuttle bus ran from Stellingen to the Arenen stop on Uwe-Seeler-Allee, from 2:45 pm to 10:20 pm.
Car: car parks Rot and Grau, €10 on site, limited spaces.
Bike and on foot: because of the course, from 4 pm only via Schnackenburgallee or Uwe-Seeler-Allee.
The 2026 A-Z doesn't say whether the bib counts as an HVV transit ticket. If in doubt, buy one. Spectators in Hamburg don't need a fan ticket, the grounds are open to all; on site you pay in cash or with food vouchers (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg).
B2Run, RUN5 or HafenCity: Hamburg's team formats
Hamburg has several company and team events that are easy to mix up. The RUN5 Teamstaffel (team relay) in the Stadtpark is a relay: five people each run about 5 km in turn, handing over in a zone in the middle of the event village. In 2026 it took place on 19 and 20 August, as the successor to the MOPO Team-Staffellauf (Source: run5.de, Hamburg). B2Run, on the other hand, is a mass start over 5.6 km with a stadium finish. More on the relay: RUN5 Teamstaffel Hamburg. Another big team run is the HafenCity Run.
That isn't settled yet. As of 3 October 2026, B2Run has not published a 2027 date. In 2026 B2Run Hamburg took place on Tuesday, 25 August, in 2025 on 16 September (Source: b2run.de).
How long is the B2Run Hamburg course?
About 5.6 kilometres on a largely flat loop through the Altonaer Volkspark, finishing inside the Volksparkstadion. The location's home page says "about 5 km"; the course page and press releases say 5.6 km (Source: b2run.de, course Hamburg).
How many people do you need for "Die Fittesten" in Hamburg?
In 2026 the winners were Airbus Operations with 219 (corporation), KPMG with 100 (company) and Arbeitgeberverband Stade Elbe-Weser-Dreieck with 50 participants (SME). In 2025, 35 were enough among SMEs (Source: b2run.de, press releases Hamburg 2025 and 2026).
How do I get to B2Run Hamburg?
Take the S5 to Stellingen (Arenen), then bus 180 or the shuttle to the Arenen stop. By car, use car parks Rot or Grau for €10; spaces are limited (Source: b2run.de, A-Z Hamburg).
What's the difference between B2Run Hamburg and the RUN5 Teamstaffel?
At B2Run everyone runs 5.6 km together into the Volksparkstadion. The RUN5 Teamstaffel in the Stadtpark is a relay in which five people each run about 5 km in turn; in 2026 it took place on 19 and 20 August (Sources: b2run.de; run5.de).
