On Saturday, 22 May 2027, the Tiergarten belongs to women again: the VITAMIN WELL Frauenlauf Berlin (women's run) starts and finishes on Straße des 17. Juni between the Victory Column and the Brandenburg Gate, over 5 or 10 kilometres, running or walking (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, homepage and event FAQ). Registration has been open since 26 May 2026. If you have never stood on a start line before, you will not be the exception: according to the organiser, many participants in 2026 were doing their very first event (source: germanroadraces.de, 2026 recap).

Unlike most city races, there is no dawn start here. The first wave, the timed 5 km, goes off at 13:30. At 15:10 the untimed 5 km, the 5 km walk and the girls' run follow, the kids' races at 15:30, and at 17:10 the 10 km starts for runners and walkers together (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, participant info). For the untimed starts, runners line up first, walkers behind them and Nordic walkers last; the same applies to the joint 10 km start (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, participant info).
For your day that means: there is time for a relaxed breakfast and a normal lunch, but plan your last larger meal two to three hours before your start. If you start at 17:10, take the morning easy and avoid spending half the day on your feet before the gun. If you come with children, the day fits together well: the kids' races from 15:30 sit between the 5 km starts and the 10 km start.
The start and finish area has two entrances: the main one in front of the Brandenburg Gate and a second at the corner of Bellevueallee and Straße des 17. Juni. The organiser recommends public transport: S-Bahn to Brandenburger Tor or Hauptbahnhof, U-Bahn to Bundestag (U5), Brandenburger Tor or Hauptbahnhof. There are toilets and changing areas at the start and finish, and bag storage costs €5 with limited capacity (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, event FAQ). The race goes ahead in any weather unless the German Weather Service has issued a warning (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, participant info).
The 5 km is one loop through the Tiergarten; the 10 km course also takes in the northern part of the park. Bands and drummers play along the route (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, courses). Course maps are available as PDFs and as an interactive map on the organiser's course page.
The real choice is less about distance than about whether you want a time:
Timing uses a disposable transponder on the bib (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, 10 km). Every participant gets an adidas event shirt and a finisher medal; engraving can be added at registration (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, homepage). After the finish there is water, fruit and alcohol-free beer (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, event FAQ). A detail for competitive runners: age-group winners from W40 upwards in the timed 5 km and the 10 km receive a free entry for the following year (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, participant info).
Prices rise by quota, not by date: once tier 1 places are gone, tier 2 applies, then late entry (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, registration). For adults, the untimed 5 km and the walks cost €36 in tier 1, the timed races €38; late entry is €48 either way (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, registration). You register online through a personal account; the window closes on 6 May 2027 (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, registration).
Plan realistically: the organiser does not refund entry fees, and places cannot be transferred to another person or another year. As cover, it recommends the entry cancellation insurance you can add during registration. Switching discipline costs €5 plus any price difference (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, participant info). If you are unsure whether 10 km is within reach, start with a 5 km entry.
Many women come with others, and the event is built for it. Three ways to start together:
The charity side is not decoration. The run was founded in 1984 as the AVON Frauenlauf by Horst Milde (source: germanroadraces.de, 2026 recap) and today sees itself as a charity event for women with cancer, explicitly not only breast cancer (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, about the event). €1 from every entry goes to the hardship fund; in 2026 SCC EVENTS handed over a cheque for €16,000 to the Berliner Krebsgesellschaft (source: germanroadraces.de, 2026 recap). Deposit bottles collected on site also raise money for the cancer society (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, participant info).
Children run the same afternoon. The kids' races begin at 15:30 with 200 metres for ages zero to two; ages three to six run 400 metres, ages seven to ten 800 metres. Children up to ten can take part for €5, and late entry on the day is possible while places last. Only children up to four may be accompanied on course; prams and running buggies are not allowed (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, kids & youth).
The girls' run (Mädchenlauf) over an untimed 5 km starts at 15:10 and costs €6. It is organised with Berlin's Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family; registration runs through schools or teachers and will open later (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, kids & youth).
More than 12,500 women and girls ran and walked through the Tiergarten in 2026, plus almost 500 in the virtual edition (source: germanroadraces.de, 2026 recap). Esther Pfeiffer won the 10 km in 35:07, ahead of Anna Langerwisch (35:34) and Lea Pommerening (36:01). Uta Pippig ran the 5 km, as in previous years (source: germanroadraces.de, 2026 recap). The day before, there was a shake-out run with coaches from the women's running network 261 Fearless (source: berliner-frauenlauf.de, news). Whether something similar is planned for 2027 has not been announced.
From today, 3 October, to the start there are 33 weeks. You will not need all of them for 5 km, but it helps to plan backwards from race day:
A spring goal has one big advantage: the days get longer as it approaches. The hardest part is the first weeks in late winter. Fixed appointments beat willpower, and so does a group where someone is waiting for you. Berlin has plenty of Lauftreffs (group runs) and run clubs with weekly sessions, many of them open to beginners; find an overview under Running in Berlin. If you arrange to train with friends, you can turn that into a charity team straight away.
If the Frauenlauf was your first event, it does not have to be your last. All of the city's races across the year are listed under Running events in Berlin. Also in the Tiergarten and run by the same organiser is the 5 x 5 km TEAM relay, where five people each run 5 km. If you want to work towards a longer distance, the Berlin Half Marathon is the next big goal.
