Marathons 2027 in Germany: dates and registration at a glance

When is which marathon in 2027, and when can you register? This calendar sorts the marathons we follow in our cities and regions by date, from the big city marathons in Hamburg, Berlin and Cologne to scenic races in the Allgäu and the Sauerland. Every date has been checked on the organiser's website, as of 3 October 2026. Where an organiser hasn't published the 2027 date yet, it says "date to follow", with the last edition as a guide. January to March: winter and forest marathons

The year opens with an unusual format. At the Leipziger Wintermarathon on Saturday, 16 January 2027, teams of three run – not as a relay: "all team members run the whole distance together at the same time". After the half-marathon distance a team may decide to stop. It's the 18th edition, limited to 100 teams, 91 of which are entered (source: wintermarathon.de). More races in the Leipzig race calendar.

On Sunday, 14 March 2027, the 53rd Königsforst-Marathon follows with 63.3, 42.2 and 21.1 km. Instead of a mass start there are many small start groups between 8:45 am and 2 pm, and about 85 % of the course runs on forest trails (source: koenigsforst-marathon.de). Combined with the Röntgenlauf ultra in Remscheid in autumn it makes the "Bergische 126.6k" (source: roentgenlauf.de). More in the Bergisches Land race calendar.

A week later, on Sunday, 21 March 2027, Bremen hosts the 7th Werderseelauf: the marathon is five laps of 8.33 km around the Werdersee lake, alongside 50 km, 33.333 km, 25 km and shorter races. Until 31 October 2026 the marathon costs €37.50, in the final week €60 (source: werderseelauf.de, 2027 regulations). See the Bremen race calendar.

April: peak spring season

The big spring marathons crowd into four April weekends.

4 April – Mein Freiburg Marathon. The 22nd edition starts and finishes at Messe Freiburg. Registration has been open since 1 September 2026, and for the first time there are no price tiers: €80 for the marathon, €70 for the half (source: fwtm.freiburg.de; mein-freiburgmarathon.de). 11 April – ADAC Marathon Hannover. Registration is open. Marathon fees rise by quota: €99 for the first 1,000 entries, €105 up to 2,500, €115 up to 4,000 (source: marathon-hannover.de, registration). There's also a half marathon, marathon relay and 10 km. More in the Hanover race calendar.

11 April – Deutsche Post Marathon Bonn. Same day as Hanover. Registration opens in October 2026, no exact date yet. In 2026, 22,222 people took part across six races, a record (source: deutschepostmarathonbonn.de). More in the Bonn race calendar.

18 April – Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon. Registration for 2027 is open, with a marathon relay and kids' races besides the marathon and half (source: uniper-duesseldorfmarathon.de). More in the Düsseldorf race calendar.

18 April – Leipzig Marathon. The 49th edition. According to the organiser, registration opened on 3 October 2026. More than 12,000 runners registered in 2026 (source: leipzigmarathon.de).

25 April – Haspa Marathon Hamburg. The 41st edition is already sold out: marathon, half and relay are all marked "sold out" (source: haspa-marathon-hamburg.de, marathon and registration pages). More in the Hamburg race calendar.

25 April – VVO Oberelbe-Marathon. The 28th edition runs from Saxon Switzerland National Park along the Elbe into Dresden. The marathon starts at 9:20 am, entries close on 11 April 2027, and around 2,030 entries are already in (source: oberelbe-marathon.de; baer-service.de). May to August: the Ruhr, Franconia and the mountains

2 May – Rhein-Ruhr-Marathon. The 44th edition in Duisburg finishes inside the schauinsland-reisen-arena. Registration is open; there's also a half, a half-marathon relay, inline and handbike races (source: rhein-ruhr-marathon.de). More in the Duisburg race calendar.

19/20 June – Sparkassen Metropolmarathon. One marathon, two cities: the 2027 motto is "from the Kaiserburg to the Kleeblatt" – from Nuremberg's castle to Fürth, whose emblem is the cloverleaf. Races are spread over the weekend; the 2027 page doesn't yet say which day the marathon runs (in 2025 it was Sunday). June – City Marathon Wiesbaden. Date to follow. The 5th edition ran on Saturday, 20 June 2026, with 42.2 km, half marathon and relay (source: sporthilfe-wiesbaden.de). More in the Wiesbaden race calendar.

24 July – IWIS Königsschlösser Marathon. The 25th edition starts on a Saturday at 7:30 am in Füssen. Only 82 metres of climbing, half asphalt, half forest roads. €70 until 31 December 2026, then rising in steps to €85 (source: laufwochenende-fuessen.de).

8 August – Allgäu Panorama Marathon. The 20th edition in Sonthofen. 4,200 people registered in 2026, a record. For the anniversary, a second half marathon is added on Saturday, on almost the same course as Sunday's but in reverse (source: allgaeu-panorama-marathon.de). September: autumn begins

11 September – P-Weg-Marathon. The marathon weekend in Plettenberg runs 10 to 12 September 2027, with the races on Saturday. The course follows the P-Weg trail around town and no kilometre is run twice. Registration opens in May 2027 (source: p-weg.de). More in the Sauerland race calendar.

12 September – Volksbank-Münster-Marathon. The 25th edition. Marathon registration opens on 2 November 2026; there's also a relay marathon (source: volksbank-muenster-marathon.de). More in the Münster race calendar.

19 September – Baden-Marathon. Published as "save the date", no registration details yet. Formats include marathon, half and a team marathon (source: badenmarathon.de). More in the Karlsruhe race calendar.

26 September – GENERALI BERLIN-MARATHON. Germany's biggest marathon runs under a new name from 2027 (source: bmw-berlin-marathon.com). Places are allocated by ballot: register from 1 October to 12 November 2026, results on 3 December 2026. The fee is €215, charged only if you get a place (source: generali-berlin-marathon.com, registration). More in the Berlin race calendar.

October: city marathons and classics

3 October – swb-Marathon Bremen. The 22nd edition falls on German Unity Day, start 9:30 am. €78 until 31 December 2026, rising in steps to €111; entries close on 19 September 2027. 15,000 participants in total in 2026, a record (source: swb-marathon.com).

October – Generali Köln Marathon. Date to follow. The 2026 race was held on 4 October; no 2027 date yet (source: generali-koeln-marathon.de). More in the Cologne race calendar.

October – Marathon München. Date to follow; 2026 edition on 11 October (source: marathonmuenchen.org). More in the Munich race calendar.

October – Sparkasse 3-Länder-Marathon. Date to follow; 2026 edition on 11 October from Lindau to Bregenz (source: sparkasse-3-laender-marathon.at).

October – Schwarzwald-Marathon. Date to follow. The 58th edition runs on 10/11 October 2026 in Bräunlingen; according to the organiser, the races have always been held on the second weekend of October since 1968 (source: schwarzwaldmarathon.de).

October – Westenergie Marathon "Rund um den Baldeneysee". Date to follow. The 64th edition runs on 11 October 2026, with the marathon capped at 1,200 entries (source: westenergie-marathon.de). More in the Essen race calendar.

17 October – Mitteldeutscher Marathon. The 24th edition is announced for 17 October 2027, running from Leipzig to Halle (Saale) (source: mitteldeutscher-marathon.de).

October – FALKE Rothaarsteig-Marathon. Date to follow. 2026 edition on 17 October in Fleckenberg, 42.195 km with 838 metres of climbing, fully booked (source: rothaarsteig-marathon.de).

October – Mainova Frankfurt Marathon. Date to follow; 2026 edition on 25 October (source: frankfurt-marathon.com). More in the Frankfurt race calendar.

October – DRESDEN-MARATHON. Date to follow; the 26th edition runs on 24/25 October 2026 (source: dresden-marathon.com).

October – Röntgenlauf Remscheid. The 25th edition is announced as an anniversary race for October 2027, exact date to follow. Anyone reaching 20 participations by 2026 runs for free (source: roentgenlauf.de).

Your registration calendar for the coming months

For the big marathons, your place is often decided months before the gun. These dates come up next:

A tip for the Berlin ballot: you'll know on 3 December. If you miss out, autumn races with open registration such as Münster, Bremen or the Mitteldeutscher Marathon are still available. For spring, don't wait for Hamburg – 2027 is already full.

Spring or autumn?

Your choice of season decides when you train. An April marathon means long runs in January and February, in dark and cold. A September or October marathon means long runs in July and August, often in heat. Both work, but most people cope better with one than the other. If it's your first, pick the season you already enjoy running in.

More important than the season is not doing the 16 to 20 weeks before it alone. Many marathons offer formats where your running group can start together even if not everyone runs 42 km: marathon relays in Düsseldorf, Bonn, Hanover and Münster, among others, a team marathon in Karlsruhe, and at the Leipziger Wintermarathon the team is compulsory (sources: organiser websites, see above). Can I still enter the Hamburg Marathon 2027?
No. The marathon, half marathon and relay of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg on 25 April 2027 are sold out, according to the organiser (as of 3 October 2026).
When are the Cologne, Munich and Frankfurt marathons in 2027?
The organisers haven't published 2027 dates yet (as of 3 October 2026). In 2026, Cologne runs on 4 October, Munich on 11 October and Frankfurt on 25 October.
Which 2027 marathons suit running groups?
Marathon relays are offered in Düsseldorf, Bonn, Hanover and Münster, among others, and a team marathon in Karlsruhe. At the Leipziger Wintermarathon on 16 January 2027, only teams of three run together.
